Thought it might be good to revive this thread as some of the early build folks should be getting info on this system sooner rather than later. I for one will be very curious to see how well the system works and how user friendly it is.

Just beware - @hybrid2bev has suggested that this may not actually happen due to unexpected difficulties in getting the system up and running.

I must have missed that. Thanks. That would actually be fine with me. Rather than struggle through a new process, leverage the dealership to do this part. For those of us using a plan (x in my case), most of the shenanigans are limited. So I am ok with relying on a traditional sit down affair with the dealer to complete the purchase.

Now that Mach E's are being built for customers, does anyone have an update on the potential online buying process since the announcement in September?
All I can tell you is that the online eCommerce process is delayed, it was supposed to launch in December. The traditional "in-dealership" process has been tested with the Mach-E and is working end to end. So there is a path to handle your purchase transaction.

Thank you hybrid2bev. I just applied for Mach E financing at Ford Credit and got approved right away. I passed that on to the dealer.

I was actually wondering about this - is there any reasons not to apply for Ford Credit early online? I'd still probably fill out a generic dealer credit app to shop other lenders, but would be nice to know Ford would extend me some credit before going in (not too concerned, but ya know...).

wait I missed something - how do you do this?

I had a freeze on my credit when the reservation was placed so I didn't get the magic preapproval - does that matter?

I'll give you two reasons why not to apply early. (exclusive of the online checkout process)
1. It's an extra inquiry on your credit which could lower your FICO score.

2. Even if you apply via OCA (online credit app) there is about a 99% chance that the dealer going to enter another credit app on you anyways. Making the OCA pointless.

Bonus reason: the OCA that you enter has a scoring process that is not quite as robust as the normal credit applications sent by your dealer directly to Ford Credit. So you could get declined on the OCA but approved through your dealer. The point being, even if you have been declined via OCA don't give up hope and talk to your dealer.

Where does one enter information to get the X-Plan price? During the online reservation, online ordering, ...? I'm trying to figure it out ahead of time so I don't miss it wherever it is...

When you arrange to pickup and pay for the car, you'll hand your xplan certificate to your dealer.
