I believe they said the adapters would be sold via the https://accessories.ford.com/ website.

Since Tesla already uses the CCS communication protocol, the adapter really only needs to make the physical layout of the plug. I don't think it should need any logic in the adapter. This would make it relativity easy to produce.
If selling through Ford Part, then I have some points to use. But their shipping service seems to be unreliable, especially ship to the dealer and pick up. They took four weeks ship my cargo liner to a dealer near me

There has long been a standard for allowing IP-based (Internet Protocol) data networking to work over power line.
I built my first home network using the adapters over the power line :D

Thank you for your informative post!

I liked dealer part pickup.

I did that with my Ford rear spoiler order.

Saved a lot on shipping a bulky body part instead of shipping to my home.

130 kWh to break even. Roughly 3 typical road trip charges.
Dang you must be doing some short road trips. I used that much on just one leg to get from Sacramento to Orange County.

Let's not get our hopes up. Since when has Tesla delivered a product on time? They were late with the Model3/Y, Semi, and CyberTruck. What makes us think that producing adapters and reprogramming charging stations is going to arrive on time?

Fortunately I don't take many road trips and charge at home. It's looking like it's not financially practical to use an EV on road trips with the prices of some of the DCFC chargers that have become active recently. My previous ICE got 40 mpg and gas around here is $2.65 so it would have been cheaper to road trip with my previous vehicle.
It will be hard for anybody that does their homework to buy an EV unless they use their home charger only. We're going from range anxiety to DCFC price anxiety.

Here's my leg home on Saturday with costs. This was about 500 miles and doesn't include the cost to charge to 100% before leaving. This was also using RAN which is pretty cheap for Rivian owners.

No, I was talking the distance between each charge, not the whole trip. (I assume you thought I meant the whole trip since the MME doesn't even have a 130 kWh battery pack.) Our road trips range between 1800 and 4000 miles. Done 37,000 miles of them so far since getting the MME almost 3 years ago.

A typical leg for us between DCFCs averages around 50% of the battery pack. That's around 40-45 kWh in my AWD ER MME. It varies based on the route, of course, but I'm commonly living in the 30-80% SOC area between DCFCs. I do like to keep enough buffer "in the tank" to make it to a backup DCFC just in case. Although that's not always possible.

On building vehicles, yes. But they tend to kick ass on chargers. I'm hoping this falls closer to their charger example and further from their vehicle example.

It depends on the trip, but usually it works out to be significantly cheaper, even when DCFC is around the same price per-mile as gas (as it often is). You need to factor in any free/cheap L2 charging as well.

For our frequent Denver-Vegas trips, for instance, we get 4 free/cheap 100% charges in the 1600 mile round trip. We start with 100% cheap from home, get a free 100% L2 at our Vegas hotels to start the return, and have a free 100% L2 at the hotel mid-drive each way. Subtract those free/cheap charges from the total, and we only end up paying for about 60% of the miles. So we end up paying about 40% less than we would gas in the ICE.

Of course, that depends on your route and whether the destination and hotels stops have free L2 or not. But at minimum you should get the first 200 miles or so from home at a huge discount.

What does that have to do with using a Tesla charger at .49/kwh to charge a MME. I don't think we (MME drivers) can charge for .36 at a Rivian charger. Thanks for comparing apples to oranges.

Would be nice if it came with 1 or 2 ft extension so we don't take 2 spots. It will create real conflict with non tesla taking 2 spots
Might be nice, but no chance of that happening. Don't get your hopes up.

"Our first car company, Ford, and then GM, are starting in Feb 2024... We're opening up to most of the other car manufacturers in stages just to make sure we don't get swamped all at once."

Sawyer Merritt on X: "NEWS: Ford and GM vehicles will gain access to more than 12,000 Tesla Superchargers in North America in February ...
Isn't is 15,000 now rather than 12,000? Wasn't there a new Ford press release that updated it to 15,000 Superchargers?
