Having to "subscribe" to a feature that your car comes with and you paid for as a part of that vehicle purchase is an exploitative cash grab, full stop.
The car comes with XM radio. Is XM radio a cash grab?

It doesn't say anywhere that BC is only for 3 years for those that paid the $1600-3000 package: Based on my reading, the 3 years was only for the 2021.

2021 F-150 and 2021 Mustang Mach-E customers will be able to purchase BlueCruise software – including a three-year service period – for $600 in the second half of 2021, when it’s ready to launch. Hardware pricing varies by vehicle.

For F-150, BlueCruise is available as a part of the Ford Co-Pilot 360 Active 2.0 package for a total of $1,595 – $600 for the software and $995 for the hardware. The Ford Co-Pilot 360 Active 2.0 package is standard on F-150 Limited and available as an option on Lariat, King Ranch and Platinum models.

For Mustang Mach-E, BlueCruise comes standard on CA Route 1, Premium and First Edition variants. It’s an available package on the Select trim for $3,200 – $ 600 for the software and $2,600 for the rest of the package – as part of the larger Comfort and Technology package, which includes features such as a 360-degree camera, heated front seats and heated steering wheel
Incorrect. It’s right there in the press release. Give it a read just for funsies.

I’ll give you that it doesn’t address later model years in that press release, which is why I can buy it for $600, and you can’t. For later model years it just includes a 90 day trial Or the option to buy 3 years for $2100. How far beyond 90 have they given you for free?

I’m still curious how it’s going for the few people with 2021 Job 1s that did get the update before the “campaign” got cancelled. Of course their NDA says they can’t talk about it, but the curiosity is killing me!

According to the 7.x poll there are 8 forum members that did get 7.0 and I believe they are all 2021 Job 1 vehicles. Im sure a few of those people put that they did even though they didnt ? but I’m guessing at least half of them actually did successfully update
Rumor has it that it updated first time. 125 minute update. Not that I would know anything about it. ;)

I liked BCHF 1.0 enough that I purchased the $600 3 year term on that alone. The promise that I'd get an update to 1.4 was not a decision point.

I agree that it BS to have us decide on a $600 bill when you really haven't had a chance to feel the latest versions. I would like to test drive the updated version before I decide to spring that amount. PS: I also like to do month installments option.
Agree ? got a message on my app I saved stating the 1.3 update would come to my car late August. Well, bubcus! I have a build 2 premium.

This sounds perfect to me and I don't know why anyone would want any more bloated software in their car.

"Self driving" is a party trick to amuse your kids but gets dumb after the 3'rd time.
Yeah, I think many others will feel the same. Put another way, all that BC1.0 provides is the ability to turn off the hand nanny when driving in Blue Zones. People are gonna have to decide if that is worth $600 (or $800 per year LOL), especially when the hand nanny isn't very hard to trick with a knee or ankle weight.

Now, to be fair, BC1.2+ does provide a few extra features. It includes assisted lane changes, in that the car will change lanes itself when triggered by a driver's flick of the turn signal. Sounds trite, but I can see the benefit of not checking blind spots. It also adjusts its lane positioning to give a little more breathing room when passing cars in the other lane (not a big deal to me). And it also loosens up the constraints to allow people to stay in hands-free mode on curves where BC1.0 would previously require a hand back on the wheel.

But for the Job 1 2021s still on BC1.0... even $600 for three years is a big ask. Ford is banking on the $800/yr to scare as many J1s "into the barn" as possible. The $800/yr won't stick - I can virtually guarantee that - but what I can't guarantee is whether something as good as $600/3yrs will ever be available again.

I can only speak for 2022, as that's when I bought my car. But that part you highlight suggest that the 3 years for 2021. The 2nd and 3rd paragraph makes no mention of a 3 year period. for 2022 there was no option for a 90 day trial. I paid $2100, which I assume would be lifetime, but apparently it's only for 3 years.

Although, to be clear, you can neither confirm nor deny that 1.4 exists.

You guys even have the option? BC is banned in my country (Norway) due to regulations (hands - free is no-go) ?
Speaking of subscriptions; I’m more concerned that in 2027 even the navigation system will be locked behind paywall. Under subscriptions the NAV is listed as a paid (yet included in a limited time until 2027). Will be a fun aftermarket for this car when you will have a car without NAV / updated NAV and hands - free (where allowed) features. What’s next? Not having the ability to fast charge past L2 speeds unless you either give Ford your moneys or your first born son?
Nav in cars uses licensed maps and requires map updates.

Are you wanting your maps to be out of date and then pay for on demand map updates? Older, non connected cars are like that. My mom's 2011 Explorer you have to pay for the updated SD card, $150.

If I still had it, I could update the map DVD in my 2003 Acura TL for only $99! :)

If you frequently travel the blessed roads that BC actually covers, it's possibly worth the $200/year... but it's worthless otherwise.

As for Nav... Apple and Google have proper map services that are always up to date without additional subscription charges. Just one of the reasons why I always use Apple CarPlay... and probably one of the reasons why some car manufacturers want to get rid of it.

I have been thinking about taking advantage of this $600 for 3 years offer. It seems like a good deal and what Ford original said it would be when I bought the car.

I have a question though. Does anyone know what happens if I buy the 3 year subscription and sell the car or upgrade to a newer model before the subscription is done (for example, 1 year into the 3 year subscription)? Do I get refunded a pro-rated amount for the 2 years left or does that subscription get passed to the next owner and I lose the value? Thanks.

It stays with the car.
