Nav in cars uses licensed maps and requires map updates.

Are you wanting your maps to be out of date and then pay for on demand map updates? Older, non connected cars are like that. My mom's 2011 Explorer you have to pay for the updated SD card, $150.
In the era of Google Maps and Waze, it is a surprise that anyone charges for maps anymore. I guess it is to appease those who won't use Android Auto or Car Play. They're usually a hell of a lot more accurate than what Ford sources anyway.

I agree they are more accurate.

But there is no free lunch. Here, which supplies the maps, have to run their business somehow. If you want Google supplied maps built in, then money has to exchange hands. A lot of people would also be up in arms about it (justified or not), due to privacy. No matter what they do, there will be a pissed off, self-righteous group.

An internet truth: When you can't figure out who is paying for some 'free' service, then you are the product. Kind of like playing poker, if you don't figure out who is the sucker at the table, well, that is bad news. Don't ask, nobody will tell you.

In July I saw the official announcement that Bluecruise 1.3 is coming "soon". We all understand what "soon" means in Ford-speak.

Now I'm receiving messages saying my Bluecruise subscription expires this month, but there is a "special offer" for 2021 Job 1 owners like me. "Only" $600 for 3 more years of Bluecruise.

Do we really think they'll expire the service before delivering 1.3?

Do we really think $17/mo for 3 years is the final offer? Sirrius is way less than that if you wait, and you can use Sirrius everyone for every mile.

This feels increasingly like Ford is making another cash-grab on their early adoptors.
In contrast to the spotty rollout of OTA updates, Ford is front and center with requests that I pay to continue my BC 1.0

Ford! Are you listening? I won’t pay $60 for Blue Cruise 1.0!

If it makes any of you feel better who are still on fence, you can cancel your renewal within 14 days of order confirmation and receive a full refund. Gives you two more weeks to see if Ford recommences the BC updates when its engineers emerge from their post-holiday stupor. Full Terms & Conditions...

BlueCruise Terms & Conditions

BlueCruise driver-assist features are supplemental and do not replace safe driving or driver’s attention, judgment and need to control the vehicle. Only remove hands in a Hands-Free Blue Zone. Always watch the road and be prepared to resume control. See Owner’s Manual for details and limitations.

The Product Terms along with any other terms and conditions presented at time of purchase (“Terms”), govern the purchase of the BlueCruise connected service plan for the vehicle specified (“Connected Service”) between you and Ford Motor Company (“Ford”).

Your Ford BlueCruise Connected Service term begins on the service start date and continues for the term of your subscription as indicated on your order confirmation (“Subscription Period”). If you signed up for your Connected Service as an automatically renewing subscription, your Connected Service will automatically renew at the end of each Subscription Period unless you cancel prior to your next renewal deadline. If your Connected Service does not automatically renew, your Connected Service will end on the last day of your Subscription Period and you will be required to purchase a new Connected Service plan if you would like to continue receiving your Connected Service. For all Connected Service plans, your payment card will be charged the price shown on each billing date from the date of the first service plan payment/activation (and for an automatically renewing Connected Service plan, you will continue to be charged, unless you cancel). You can update or cancel your Connected Service through your Ford Account.

If you cancel your Connected Service plan within 14 days of receiving your initial order confirmation, you will receive a full refund but the Connected Service will end immediately. Maximum of 1 refund per Connected Service per customer. After the first 14 days, the Connected Service plan is non-refundable and if you choose to cancel, the Connected Service will remain active until the end of the Subscription Period, at which point it will end and you will need to purchase a new Connected Service plan if you want to continue using the Connected Service. This Connected Service is specific to the vehicle associated and activated with your Ford Account. The vehicle activated with the Connected Service requires the FordPass Connect modem to be active and associated with your Ford Account. Any other vehicles added to your Account will require their own Connected Service(s).

Use of BlueCruise requires an active Connected Service plan FordPass® App, and active modem. The BlueCruise plan and features depend on compatible AT&T network availability. Evolving technology/cellular networks/vehicle capability may limit functionality and prevent operation of connected features. Lack of an active Connected Service plan, active modem, or failure to regularly update maps could result in BlueCruise being unavailable. Plans and pricing are subject to change. Ford reserves the right to change, update, improve, correct, modify, suspend, discontinue, or cancel all or part of the Connected Service at any time without notice or obligation to you. For important information about your Connected Service plan, and how to cancel, log-in to your account at Ford.com

Contact Us:

You can view and manage your BlueCruise Connected Service plan details, including terms and conditions, cancellation mechanisms and policies, 24/7 by logging in to your account at Ford.com. If you have any questions or concerns, call us at 800-392-3673.
Oh, and Ford also evidently figured out that sales tax doesn't apply to services in Kansas. :)

It would be swell if they gave another extension, or rolled out the new version sooner. I ended up springing for it just because I'd hate for the offer to expire.

Ultimately I got a $600 rebate because it wasn't ready when I purchased it, then a couple years of free BC, so I'll keep my whining to a minimum other than to point out, the pace of updates is painfully slow... took nearly 3 years to make my frunk ALMOST usable.

In my Hummer, it comes with Google maps, and I can install Waze and PlugShare as well, from the Google play store.

I agree that it BS to have us decide on a $600 bill when you really haven't had a chance to feel the latest versions. I would like to test drive the updated version before I decide to spring that amount. PS: I also like to do month installments option.
If you have a Job 1 car you need ot make that choice before Sunday night (12/31/2023) or the offer is gone. That is according to Ford.

Where does it say the offer expires 12/31?
I received an email from Ford yesterday at 11 am and here is the first line - "Your Ford BlueCruise (trial) service is coming to an end for Mustang Sal-E and will expire on 12/31/2023 if you choose not to renew."
I really don't travel that much on BC mapped roads and have not been impressed with 1.0 performance when I do (frequent dropouts). Plus I never really use cruise control that often ( I like driving the car!!). So, even though its a $600/3 year offer, I'm passing. Hands free just doesn't mean that much to me. For others with different driving needs and habits, it's probably a no-brainer.
