It's a sad world when we need to dump a couple grand a year into hardware and licensing so we can take a gamble at getting the updates we think will improve the car or run the risk of bricking it.

I wonder if anyone has been denied warranty work because of using FDRS.

Not that I’m personally aware of. But, if you’re bringing it the dealer to unbreak something you did wrong with FDRS, yeah that’s going to be on your dime. :)

OTAs are easier but not, as we’ve seen, without their own issues. I’m genuinely hopeful that the next gen MMEs and Lightnings will be easier for Ford to update.

I think I once read an interview with Bill Ford in which he said he just hates guys named "Jeff".
Coincidence? ?

Or maybe just a DB update SNAFU?

Hmmm ?
Well, today it shows available and shows the $600/3yr option. So I guess the SNAFU is fixed or Bill's new year resolution is to drop his beef with guys named Jeff ?

Brought my car in for charge port issues last year and was "caught" using FDRS - tech just asked if I did my own updates (probably because he saw my name as the technician in the FDRS logs), which I said yes. He's like, "oh, okay, I don't think that has anything to do with the issue you're having" and that was that. I guess if it really doesn't have anything to do with modules being bricked, FDRS shouldn't be an issue.

1st-time poster, long-time lurker. I know that several people were wondering if the $600 for 3 years offer would persist after 12/31. My Mach-E still has active BC since it's only 1.5 years old, but the BC in my 2021 F-150 Hybrid expired on 12/31. Just wanted to let everyone know that my offer is still available. Earlier today I received a BC expiration notice through email that reiterated the $600 offer if I want to re-activate. Similar to the original offer emails, it doesn't list an expiration for the offer.

As long as the truck gets BC 1.4, I'll renew. I'm in the same boat as many others who just have a sour taste by being asked to renew the product when I ping-pong around the lane, stick dangerously close to the right side, get pulled into off-ramps, etc. when we know there is a much better version available. I think $600 for 3 years is actually a reasonable price, but I really don't want to pay it until the capability of the software receives the upgrade that I know it's capable of. But, I feel like I'm gambling by holding out much longer. I'd be really upset if I missed this offer and had no option other than paying $800 for a year.

As a side note, I just want to thank everyone who contributes to the forum. There is so much awesome information and community on here that has been great to see. I'll try to contribute as well.

My truck used to do the same. An IPMA calibration worked wonders.

With that said: The newer BC does work much better on the F150 than BC 1.0. The predictive speed feature I'm hoping gets improved with 1.4, but all the other BC functions are much better with BC 1.2/1.3.

Got my hopes up for nothing, I checked my connected services account and it's still saying $800 a year...

The maps in the vehicle are automagically updated OTA. No user intervention is necessary.
Here has an app (android link) to fix the data in the maps. Then that gets pushed out to Ford and other automakers...eventually. It let's you fix roads and points of access.

They allow unvalidated data to be pushed to vehicles? That doesn’t sound very safe.

They validate it, but the process takes a long time.

I've made edits to Google maps, which has a much better process. And with Google you build up a reputation of trust. It's mostly things like hours of a business, or pinpointing exactly where they are.

You can add and delete roads as well, but usually not necessary. Again, they validate it.

Connected services shows that my navigation trial ends April 2024 (I'm a 2021 J1). That makes it seem as if there will be another fee in addition to BlueCruise. Or is it that the fee for navigation goes away if you renew BlueCruise?
Nav maps and BC maps are not the same, apples to oranges.

Refused to do either of the two recalls on it (glass recalls).
I waited close.to a year on a waiting list for the glass recall, with the dealer that was closest to home. After 11 months of waiting (I did call a few times to figure out what was taking so long), I grew tired of it, and tried another dealer not too far from me. Took them 2 weeks to schedule the appointment and that was only because they need to order and have a replacement on hand just in case it breaks.

You have no other option close enough by?

Thanks. The validation step (which is pretty important) was missing from your earlier post ?
