All-

I installed the draw-tite hitch receiver on my 22 MME. I Also financed the car with the Ford options plan.

If I want to give the car back to Ford instead of paying the balloon when the time comes, does anyone know if it's a problem that I added the receiver? It's only been used for bike and ski racks. No towing. I guess I could take it off, but the place where the bumper was cut would still be there.

Thanks!

I would think this would be addressed in the paperwork you signed, which hopefully you still have a copy of.

I returned my 21 MME with the hitch on. The dealer didn't want me to remove it.

I just added the same hitch to my car. I wouldn’t toe with it. Installed it to use my carrier. Did not install the light kit.

tow

How does this answer the OP's question, i.e. if the dealer is going to take a deduction for a hitch install on a lease car?

Remember, under the options program, you own the vehicle. The title is in your name with Ford as the lender. You have to satisfy the outstanding balance, but once that is done, you can sell it privately or trade it in anywhere. Maybe where they won't care about the notch.

Right. You have the RIGHT to do anything you want to the vehicle. They MAY have the RIGHT to take a deduction (having read a Ford Options contract and compared it to Leasing contract though).

They will advise you at your courtesy pre-inspection. If it was professionally installed (or appears to be), I’d expect return location would not mind to have it left on. Barring damage or poor installation there likely won’t be any charges.

Here’s the overall guide:

Damage guide:
