Why do you all keep talking about cord lengths? I don't see any problems here at all.

Ford Mustang Mach-E NACS Adapter is on Ford Parts Website (no, it can't be ordered yet) Gemini_Generated_Ima

$50 million in free equipment from Tesla to Ford EV owners? Equipment tied to your VIN. Doesn't seem right. Could the catch be a $14.95 monthly Tesla membership is required?

I doubt the adapter is tied to the VIN, unless you just mean existing owners getting one for free.

I assume Ford is paying Tesla for the adapters, just like any other part/accessory from a 3rd party supplier. It is a bit surprising that Ford is doing this good will gesture by sending us a free adapter rather than simply offering them for sale. For now I'll take that at face value.

Maybe Tesla is providing them to Ford at no cost and will recoup the cost thru charging costs or some arrangement like that.

It's more than surprising. I've heard of no similar gesture by any other manufacturer, and regardless of what discount they get from Tesla it certainly is not a trivial expense. My guess is that Farley understands that charging is the biggest roadblock to EV adoption, and thus knew he needed to provide adapters with unsold cars to help move them off the lot - and since BOCN is a requirement he also made the decision not to make that a paid service. The fact that he's extending the benefit to people who paid him as long ago as 3 years is more than an empty gesture.

Just a guess here: Using Blue Oval Charging Network, Charge Assist, or Plug & Charge at Tesla Superchargers will be billed at non-Tesla/non-member rates. If you want the Tesla discount, you pay for membership and use the Tesla app.

That's how it works with everyone else now. I don't see why Tesla would be any different.

Agreed. IIRC, the original announcement said that new Ford EVs would come with the adapter too (until they have native NACS ports). I could see a little bit of "Well, if the new ones get it than we should too!" complaints. Maybe they're just trying to head those off. Or maybe the reaction to Farley's interview comments that some liberally interpreted as "for free" had them worried about a negative response if they weren't? (Silly as it would be for people to respond that way.)

Whatever the reason, it's a surprising but generous gesture by Ford. Of course, now some people will probably expect more free stuff from them. No good deed.... ???

You've been on this forum long enough to know that's exactly the reaction that would be displayed ?

Just look at all the bitching about having to sign up to get one...

So, as everyone knows, a money maker for Tesla. One way or anther the “free” adapter will be covered. No complaint on my part. Just pointing out that Ford is most likely not just giving away $50 million worth of parts. I intend to get mine when available even though there is no network to speak of in Alaska.

I'm guessing it's closer to $20M, but either way, I suspect Ford is buying them from Tesla at typical wholesale prices. Probably part of the deal that Ford made with Tesla.

Whatever the number, Ford probably feels it's worth it to add significant value to their EV offerings (new) and their EV reputation (vehicles already sold the last 3 years). $20M worth of marketing when all these Mach-Es and Lightnings are shown being able to charge at 15,000 Superchargers too, mitigating one of the big fears of buying an EV.

Just my guess anyway.
