Yes, I believe @Mach-E VLOG posted a video showing a MY 24 and the Ford Flack was pointing out the change as a “design enhancement” (instead of decontenting and mindless cost reduction ?)

I own a company that has approximately 60 vehicles. Many of our trucks are Fords, F 150s, 250s, 550s, and 750s. I have met Alan Mulally and have been a ford customer and watcher for 30 years. I have to say that Farley, is not the right leader. It is classic American management, an amazing engineer and leader re built ford from 2006 to 2014, and it is actually in the book that was written about this time, that Jim Farley was not up to the job of running the company, according to Mulally. I think Bill Ford is incapable of running the company, and possibly the only thing he did right in his tenure was to agree to shut his mouth and let Mulally fix the company. However he allowed this clown to take over. He is not up to it. As of right now, I have 7 commercial trucks on order since October 2022, I actually have an allocation of 5 per quarter, so of the 25 I was entitled to exactly zero have showed up. To make it worse, I bought an electric car from Ford that had a range of like 240 miles and a charge speed of like 120, yet the car only goes like 175 miles on freeway and charges at like 70. It is a fun and fast toy around town and I like it, but the people running Ford are the definition of misguided. Like our federal government they live in fantasy land. These electrics will not move American's around with reliability for decades, the grid is not up to it and the charging system is not durable, yet nobody seems to be paying attention. Sorry just a rant to follow up on your rant. If I could do over, i would probably buy a Tesla S, due to super chargers and car is awesome. but to travel and when going gets tough I drive my F 250. Which if you want one, it will take 7 months to get if you are lucky. They are maroons .

I have bought a 2021 MME and I agree with you about the range problems, but the rest of the car is well done.

It was the first EV Ford made and that usually comes with many problems. The transition from ICE to EVs is not going to stop and manufacturers will start getting things right.

Jim Farley saw the troubles with public charging and made the decision to get on the Tesla network. That was a great decision and most of the rest of the EV manufacturers followed.

Jim is open to his customers and has explained some of the troubles they have, which is refreshing. When I compare what Ford has done with their Evs to what GM has done with their EVs, GM comes off badly.

Jim Farley certainly is not a moron.

Let's not panic here, folks, huh? Much as the Mach-E hasn't hit original sales projections, no other legacy brand has had a massive hit at this point, either (alright, alright, the Bolt counts), and it's been among the best selling non-Teslas in North America.

I would take the 2022 projections with a grain of salt at this point, because a lot has changed since then. I'd buy the idea of a potential '26 refresh, sure, but not a whole new car. I would take for granted that such a mid-cycle refresh would come equipped with a heat pump, since that's maybe the most glaring lack in the current car. Possibly the new Google-based infotainment that Ford has been hinting at, and maybe some improvements in the battery pack.

But we're not seeing a new Mach-E for a fair while. Sorry.

But keep in mind, the car only came out 3 years ago. No one was really expecting much in terms of new features or mid cycle refresh until at least 2025.

2024 doesn’t count as a refresh, the changes are too minor. Perhaps they were thinking 2025 for a refresh, but recent sales have been so off-the-mark, I’d guess 2026 for a mid-cycle refresh.

I doubt we’ll see a whole new generation Mach-E this decade.

Ford has said repeatedly that their "Gen 2" EVs are necessary for EV profitability, and that those are estimated to arrive within a couple of years (originally around 2025-2026, though that timeline may have been pushed back recently). They haven't explicitly said that the Mach-E is getting a Gen 2 variant, but it's been hinted.

In ordinary times a mid-cycle refresh in a year or two followed by a new model at the end of the decade might have been appropriate, but these aren't ordinary times. Ford loses money on every Mach-E sold and while they've said they will reduce the losses over the life of the vehicle, they need Gen 2 vehicles to get to EV profitability.

To me, that implies throwing out the usual vehicle timeline and we'll see a new Mach-E model much faster than usual so that they can get to per-vehicle profitability (and eventually, once sufficient scale is reached, overall EV profitability).

I think Ford's priority for "Gen 2" is going to be market segments they don't already have product in, not the replacement of existing product.

I firmly believe there will be a Gen 2 Mach-E; it's a successful car and if the Dodge Charger EV is a hit it's going to push Ford to freshen earlier, but I still suspect we're going to see a mid-cycle refresh and at least three years past that before we see a "new" Mach-E, unless the current trajectory changes drastically for some reason.

Note that the road map and press release mention a mid-year announcement in ‘26, which points logically to a ‘27 model year refresh, not a ‘26 model year refresh. ??

I think Mach-E will not be around for long.

I like 90% of what is in my Mach-E. It fits my needs on a broader scale than any car I have previously owned. I would love to have a better product when battery tech evolves further, but there is no question I will drive this 10+ years. I believe they have a winner if they can bring the cost down and address the gaps. They are learning fast.

But what makes me wonder is, given you knew all this at launch (Although I truly think the HVBJB issue(s) was a complete surprise to them.), would you not have started on the next gen immediately? Gen 1 buys some time, gets a car out there, but the new platform could have been ready now had they started in 2021.

Sounds like they did do this to a degree, but worked on a new "small" platform instead because at some point BYD et. al. are going to be in the mix.

They did start on the next platform nearly immediately. It still takes more years than people realize to design a platform from the ground up. Likely 26 availability at the earliest. Among other changes, the tech is being architected in house... Ford has never done this in the computer era... it's been done by vendors for decades which is a massive change.

The small platform skunk works car is in addition to this.

They also have the VW based Euro Explorer which they are going to school on. BTW, I think it could be successful in North America.

Why all the pessimism? There’s no reason why Ford wouldn’t make a Mach-e refresh. It’s a successful vehicle. The issues we’re seeing have nothing to do with the car and everything to do with incoherent management and bad decision making. The vehicle has some issues but it’s a great first try. Let’s not throw the baby with the bath water.

Ford needs to develope a common platform that will get them the suv/sedan like Mach E, a smaller cheaper Escape like EV and a Escort like small urban car. Front and rear clips that are the same with wheelbase/modular battery packs to adjust to the varies sizes. Treat the masses right and they will treat you right

NOT have the sequential front turn blinkers? Sounds like another cost saving move. Very disappointing. I love my MachE, but seeing this decontenting makes it even more likely that I may need to find a new EV SUV brand when my Ford Options plan ends in a couple of years.

Thanks for that - that's great info. I know there have been a few little details about the in-house stuff (like the motors on the Rally) so I'm happy to hear the Mach-E platform was not just a one-off experiment.
