Ok if you've been shopping for an EV you probably already know this . If you've been watching or reading the news you seen the stories.Ive experienced it also . Dealers thinking it's still 2022 and charging over MSRP even after all the price cuts this year. Dealers using the 2022 MSRPs on the sites . "Offering" 8.6% interest rates even though Ford has 0-1.9%. Offering peanuts for EV trades but still not adjusting their new car prices to reflect the price drops .

Hello. First post on this forum. So let's get right into it. :)

Currently I own my second EV in a row. Also I am downsizing, so I am shopping a much less expensive EV to switch to. That led me to Mustang Mach-E, which I successfully test drove last week.

When I went looking for one to buy this weekend, in the configuration I wanted, I encountered what you report here: "Dealers thinking it's still 2022".

But it's only some dealers of some brands. For example, I am seeing the opposite when I look for an EV6 or IONIQ 5 to buy; factory incentives matching the federal tax credit PLUS dealer incentives matching the state tax credit in the lower price bracket.

I guess that nature will take its course. The dealers that are trying to live in the past will sell those cars... in the past. But not today.

I test drove the Rivian R1S last week with wifey. Heads and shoulders above any legacy dealer experience I’ve had (including bmw & Audi). Very pleasant woman. Highly knowledgeable about the vehicle (and I mean every invisible feature). Zero pressure. It took 45 min for the whole thing, including testing the 3.1 sec 0-60 acceleration.

Why would you deal with Ford or any greasy salesman? (and yes I know: I’m the master of grease)!

Last month we shopped for another EV at Hyundai, Ford, and Kia dealers. The Hyundai sales team was terrible; they quoted numbers way out of line from the web site and knew little about the Ionic 5. The Ford/Kia dealer (same place) was fine and gave us good terms in line with the web sites. We felt the Mach-E was a bit better driving than the EV-6, so we made the deal. We are aware of differences in L3 charging speeds but it was not much of an issue for us. The Supercharger adapter was a bigger consideration (we also own a 2018 Model 3).

In the other direction, I found an XLT Standard range Lightning over the weekend that (according to the dealer's crazy, supposedly stacking, rebates) would have cost $31k out the door. I'd have been on a plane this morning to pick it up if that was true. :)

In your specific example, concerns that Rivian might be out of business in a couple of years.
As to all of the legacy manufacturers, dealing with their salespeople is one of my least favorite things. The lease on my wife's Infiniti is up at the end of the month, so wish me luck on my car shopping journey. LOL.

yeah but much as I like the rivian the RS1 has a starting price of $78,000. So I guess at my level I have to deal with a greasy salesman

People suck. And if you’re looking for examples of this, you never have to look far.

There are plenty of examples of dealerships that are run well and will give you a pleasant shopping experience. The issue isn’t the business model.

It’s like comparing a bad dining experience with a crappy waiter to a drive through at Chik Fil A. You have a wonderful experience at Chik.

But it has nothing to do with the drive through business model.

Just curious since your bio says your car was delivered in Oct of 21....do you have an RECENT experience with trying to buy a new Mach or EV ? This isn't 2021 .
