I ordered a Grizzl-E Mini May 2023. It has never worked. It blew my circuit breaker twice and will not charge my MachE. I have been trying to resolve the issue for many months with United Chargers. they want me to plug it in again and record a video of the lights on the unit so they can see the error message. I want a new unit or a refund. I am out $500 US and the charger has never worked. I have a professionally installed Hubbell NEMA 1450 receptacle about 15 feet from my main electrical panel. I have 200 AMP service to my house. I have an Autel smart charger that I use everyday and has worked flawlessly for 18 months. DO NOT TRUST UNITED CHARGERS. I have long email exchanges with the customer support folks at United Chargers. They insist I plug the unit in again and record a video. I refuse to do that because I am sure that they will not cover any damage that may occur to my home wiring or the MachE is something happened. I realize this is a rant but I am out $500 US and I can get no satisfacvtion from United Chargers

Is your outlet on a gfci breaker? If yes, then this is your problem. The internal gfci to the grizzl-e is nuisance tripping your breaker.

NO, NO GFCI breaker. I was careful to tell the electrician not to install a GFCI from the previous research I had done

I do not consider that an option. What if I damaged my MachE in the process, do you think United Chargers would step up am pay for it? I seriously doubt it. If I buy anything that does not work out of the box, under warranty I expect it to be repaired or replaced. The customer should not be liable for diagnosing a faulty unit. Additionally, I am not the only person who has had trouble with the Grizzl-E Mini .

Obviously they would go over some basic trouble shooting with you on the unit. Asking for video or photos of the problem is not unreasonable.

I doubt they want to take back a unit that works fine if there was a user error or something along those lines. Who would pay for the cost of that if the unit wasn’t defective?

I’ve been using their classic charger for 3 years now and it has been rock solid. I switched to their DUO charger this year and no issues with it either.

It does not work. My Autel charger has been working for 18 months. The Grizzl-e is not working. If I bought any electrical appliance and plugged it in and it blew my breaker, I should be able to return it, no questions asked. If I bought a toaster at Target and plugged it in at home and it blew by breaker do you think the manufacturer would ask me to diagnose the issue? really?

How many amps is your breaker?

Does the breaker go just when you plug it in or only when the car starts charging?

There are a lot of issues where people have a problem with their outlet install. Less likely to be a problem with a lower drawing appliance

Also, what kind of user error? I plugged it in tho the NEMA 1450 wall socket and then plugged it in to my MachE. The breaker blew and its would not charge. I did the same thing a couple of more times. Breaker blew each time. My Autel charger works fine. USER ERROR, like I don't know how to plug something in? I have an electric dryer and and electric range. When I plugged them in, they worked. Not much chance for a user error. I even reduced the maximum output of the Grizzl-e mini to 16 AMPS via the wifi connection. My circuit is a 50 AMP circuit. My Autel can output up to 40 AMPS, 20% less that then rating of the 50 AMP circuit which is code in the USA. I normally run the Autel at 32 AMPS because I am charging overnight and I do not need more power to obtain my normal 90% charge. I do have some knowledge of electricity and electronics beyond my ability to plug in an appliance.

I never said you didn’t know how to plug something in. But I don’t know you and the company doesn’t know you either. It makes sense to resolve the issue if possible. Many appliance companies include a notice in the box to contact them first if you have an issue for the same reason. Sometimes the problem can be identified without any repairs or returns. If not then they can move forward with the next step right away.
I’m sure they deal with people all day long that have no idea what they are doing.

Anyways, do what you want. I didn’t reply to argue with you, just trying to offer a different perspective and maybe help.

I’m sure if you sent the info they requested they would move on to the next step.

Did you take the Grizzl-E Mini and plug it into a different home/location to find out if the unit will blow/trip the 50 amp breaker?

I only have the one NEMA 1450 50 AMP circuit that is easily accessible. I do have an electric dryer and and electric rage but those receptacles are not NEMA 1450s or easily accessible. I know I could use the adaptor to plug the Mini unit in but I would be unable to reach the vehicle

I purchased an Emporium EVSE a few months ago. It woke me in the middle of the night beeping and I had to turn the breaker off to stop the chiming.
I reached out to the manufacturer via email and they replied the same day that the EVSE had logged that it lost the pilot signal. They also informed me that they would put it in monitoring status on their end for a few days.

A couple of weeks later the EVSE repeated the scenario, although this time it wasn't even in use. I followed up on the previous email and they confirmed that the logs showed the same lost pilot signal. They shipped a new charger and a return label for me.

I'm wondering if the EVSE you have isn't designed to provide logging at the cloud level? That ability seems to have made it far easier for the manufacturer of the Emporium to give excellent customer service.

Why would it damage the car?

You say it never worked out of the box. If that’s the case, why didn’t you just return it while it was within the return window rather than spend months with the manufacturer? It doesn’t sound like they’re asking you to diagnose the problem; they’re just asking you to document the problem with a video.
