New FordPass app? Not sure how I feel.

You mean like this? Very happy to see a redesign of this app coming, but I've wondered why they can't just give up and copy Tesla. We really would be better off. I know that will piss a few people off, but it really is just intuitive and makes sense.

There's a lot of cross collaboration and infrastructure needed to generate proper 3D models and not bloat your phone with all of them (nobody wants a > 500Mb app). This is a classic scenario where I'm going to say "it's them not us".

The existing image issues (on their own) are well known and unfortunately out of the application's hands .


My advice would be to ensure that feedback is consistently fed to Ford.

Yeah, a picture of the car makes sense if I can tap the windows to roll them down or doors to unlock or something that makes it a functional feature. But as it stands it needs to be reduced by 50% at least. I kind of like having some visual, because we have two FP vehicles and having a picture of the MME or truck is about the fastest way of seeing I am on the right one. But it doesn't need to be 2/3rds of my phone screen.

I still don't understand why we can't adjust the actual climate controls in the app? This is really straight forward. the "last used" option is dumb. This is my only gripe.

Yup. I’ll be one of those people. While I actually like how the new FP incorporates most of the functionality we all want, I do have a problem with stupid design.

Let me explain why this is dumb, and why it is not just cosmetic:

The front “Vehicle” page should NOT BE SCROLLABLE. IT SHOULD BE ONE FIXED PAGE. Why? Because we use this app as a fob.

Can you scroll a fob? No. And it would be a big MESS if you could, because of how we use fobs: we expect to pull something out of our pocket and for the buttons to STAY IN ONE PLACE. Because we are often using it while we are preoccupied with other tasks. Walking to the car, juggling items, etc.

I cannot tell you how many times I’ve tried to use FP on the fly and the damned button I want moves because I didn’t hold my finger perfectly steady and it was interpreted as a swipe. DUMB.

And it would be EASY to have one fixed page if @Ford Motor Company didn’t WASTE SO MUCH SPACE.

So, for example, A THIRD of the page is occupied by a totally useless car graphic. Then there is a button for Location… which when tapped gives you two small lines of text that would have been smaller to just insert those in lieu of the big clipart button.

Then there is a weird “Settings” button which should be a gear symbol fixed to the bottom ribbon.

Make those changes, and the Vehicle page would be cleaner, simpler, and fixed in place.

when I touched the ford icon on the watch it said I now had to enable a pass code for security in order to use the watch app

Someone in a Facebook Ford EV group may or may not have posted a screenshot of the beta app controlling an F-150 Lightning that had a new settings menu where you could set the exact cabin temp with a slider as well as control the heated seats and wheel. That would be a very neat hypothetical feature that could be coming to the Mach-E as well.

10 years ago I worked for a large education company. The catch phrase was 'just put it in the cloud, it's free'. So I did. After raising my hand a few times saying 'this is going to get costly' I was ignored. When the $300k a month bills started rolling in they asked why. I forwarded the emails I sent over that 3 years. 'I thought we were only using the free tier?'

This is by far my biggest gripe of FP 4.x. A control interface should NOT shift around! Nothing more annoying than have a button move on you just as you go to press it!

I have the same annoyance with the Android notifications...when you pull down the list to see notifications, they should suspend adding new notifications until you roll up the list again. I can't tell you how many times I went to swipe a notification away and a new notification comes in right at that moment and I swipe away something I didn't want to swipe away.

I was part of the beta. One of the first things I did was put in an issue for the image being too big for a non-functional element. I don't think they agreed because it is still, too big.
