Ford Introduces Groundbreaking On-Screen Intelligent Assistant: Meet the Turtle

April 1, 2024 - Dearborn, Michigan - Ford Motor Company is proud to announce the launch of its latest innovation in automotive technology: the On-Screen Intelligent Assistant, affectionately named "Timothy Turtle." This revolutionary assistant is designed to provide invaluable advice to drivers regarding vehicle power limits, ensuring optimal performance and safety on the road.

Timothy Turtle, the friendly and knowledgeable digital companion, takes the form of an adorable turtle character that appears on the vehicle's instrument panel. Drawing on advanced artificial intelligence and data analytics, Timothy Turtle offers personalized guidance tailored to each driver's specific vehicle and operating conditions.

"At Ford, we are committed to leveraging cutting-edge technology to enhance the driving experience and prioritize safety," said Jim Farley, CEO of Ford Motor Company. "With the introduction of Timothy Turtle, we are revolutionizing the way drivers interact with their vehicles, providing real-time advice to optimize performance and promote safe driving in the face of occasional issues with the vehicle’s battery system. We’re the only automaker doing this."

One of Timothy Turtle's key functionalities is its ability to advise drivers on vehicle power limits, helping them understand the capabilities of their vehicle and navigate various driving scenarios with confidence. As the vehicle’s battery becomes low, Timothy Turtle will change color and provide additional information on vehicle operating constraints. Whether accelerating on a highway, traversing flat terrain, or driving in cold weather, the Turtle offers timely recommendations to ensure drivers stay within excessively safe battery operating parameters at all times.

"Timothy Turtle is not just an intelligent assistant; it's a trusted companion for drivers," said Dr. Rebecca Wood, Chief Technology Officer at Ford. "We listened to customer feedback about vehicles running out of power before 0% is shown, and decided developing a new intelligent assistant would be the best course of action. By harnessing the power of AI, we are empowering drivers with valuable insights that prioritize both battery longevity and warranty cost reduction, with minimal disruption to the customer. We wouldn’t have been able to do this without Timothy."

In addition to its role in providing advice on power limits, Timothy Turtle offers a range of other features designed to enrich the driving experience. From real-time status updates to proactive operating suggestions, Timothy Turtle is always at the ready to assist drivers and enhance their journey.

The introduction of Timothy Turtle underscores Ford's ongoing commitment to innovation and customer-centric design. As the automotive industry continues to evolve, Ford remains at the forefront, pioneering advancements that elevate the electric driving experience and set new standards for safety and convenience. Timothy Turtle will be available as a standard feature on new Ford electric vehicles, with plans for deployment via OTA across the entire electric vehicle lineup “soon.”
