$12.99 Tesla Membership - will I have to use the Tesla app instead of P&C for the discounted rate?

Awhile ago they had some plan where you paid $50 for EA member rates through Ford using P&C, I used it and after a couple months they actually got it working, but I let it expire since I stopped driving as much.

Now I do not see it as an option (or maybe they moved the location with the sketch app). But needless to say, they CAN do it, and they may even do it.

Actually, it's more like
Yup. Yup. Yup. Maybe.
If by “Maybe” you mean, “Could they if they wanted to”, Then yes. But will they? Nope.

Ford could have done a discounted P&C pricing scheme with Electrify America but they decided against it. There’s no evidence to suggest Tesla will be any different than EA.

Was that $50/year?

Yes, $50 a year, however it didn't work for the first few months, and then continued working for some time after expiration... might be way they don't offer it anymore..

Yes, actually, Ford is considering implementing the discount programs again. I know there are folks in Ford who want it to happen. Unfortunately, it is tougher to implement than armchair critics think. Whether or not it will happen is another question.

If you think it is so easy, why is Ford the only company to have even tried it? Why hasn't someone else pulled it off?

Ford trialed a discounted P&C thru EA. It didn’t go past a select group of MME owners and to this day, no one can get their EA Pass+ discounts using P&C . There’s no evidence that Ford will get any further with Tesla.

Ford execs like Farley and Dave Pericak have said they cannot discuss unannounced future products or plans. If you have additional information to the contrary, please share. Thank you.

do people use DC superchargers that much to pay the monthly fee for slightly reduced rates? I notice on my plug and charge in fordpass the local tesla stations range from .26 to .34 per kwh based on time of day. I double checked on the tesla app and it was quoting .31 per kwh.

What I find interesting, the nearest EA station to me (40 miles away) is .44 per kwh.

In fact, there are people who have posted that they are getting the EA discount via P&C as part of that same initiative that was rolled out, then withdrawn due to issues such as using the free credits first. I believe it likely to be a future offering, but who knows.

Math.

$12.99 for a month. Assume a discount of 12 cents. $12.99 / 12 = 108kWh.

Charging 20 to 80% on an ER is 55kWh. So, breakeven is 2 charges... On the Lightning it is 1.4. So, yes.

You can downgrade after your trip is over, then sign up months later.

An annual fee is a nope for me. Traveling 3 or 4 times a year is 25 to 33% the cost, sign up monthly. Plug and Charge not a big deal for me.

Also, Costco Visa EV charging discount works with EA, but not Ford. Yet to see if it works with Tesla.

Holy smokes, 4% cash back on EV charging! Thanks, this is cool to learn!

Paying for a one month Tesla membership makes economic sense if you are planning on doing a road trip with two or more charges. I guess you gotta figure if the convenience of Plug & Charge is worth the $3 to $6 or so per session.

You will NOT get 4% back on Ford, as it processes as Ford Motor Company, which is not an EV charging company.

Tesla DOES process as EV charging company.

You have some really low Tesla rates in your area.

So Calif - is high for all DCFC (EA, EVGo, Shell, Tesla).

For me, I charge at least 3 times a month and then way more when I take road trips.

Tesla SC locations make it way more convenient than the CCS charge networks that I have to travel miles more to get there, wait lines of freebie sessions, broken towers, and make me wait for a scant amount of chargers.

Tesla SC so far I have never seen full so I don't feel bad when I take up 2 spaces for 1 tower.

Right, might be because Ford isn’t be able to use a different merchant code for EV charging vs a Ford sweatshirt in their online apparel shop.

Love the math! Thanks @RickMachE

Here in So Calif, the discount for Tesla membership is around $0.15-$0.20.

OTOH when I was in Nor Calif, Tesla SC rates were fixed and did not change thru the day plus being lower in price.

I calculate 2 charge sessions in town and I should break even on the Tesla membership. Any more like a road trip a month which I am doing and it's a better deal..
