So I'm in Canada and initially put in $500 to reserve back in February for the regular Mach-e. Now the dealer is asking for $2000 more to put in the order (I guess this is with ford to give me build date etc) and to make it none refundable. This was never mentioned to me in the past, has anyone got something like this from their dealers?

I am in the States (California). When I placed the order I only had to put $500 down and was told that the original $500 I put in with the reservation would be returned by Ford Credit. I did not inquire about refundability, probably because I fully plan to take the car.

Is that just an additional deposit, or does your dealer want $2K on top of MSRP. Both are bad, but the latter is much worse. In the case of the latter, I'd look for a new dealer, and see if the order can be transferred.

No, but I would cancel with that dealer immediately and shop around elsewhere. Even if your order gets cancelled, putting in a new order now probably won't delay your car too much - certainly not a delay worth spending $2000 on.

We have nice group of forum members from Canada - perhaps posting in the Canada regional sub group (https://www.macheforum.com/site/forums/canada.27/) would be helpful as well. I dont know how it works with dealers in Canada but if it were in the USA I would suggest finding a dealer who will ask only the 500$ and makes it refundable.

I would email Ford EV Team ([email protected]) and ask for guidance. This may be the dealer trying to take your order so he can sell it to someone else.

Last I spoke to the dealer, the price i would pay was the price Ford charges, and the price shown on the website. First find out if this is an additional deposit or on top of MSRP. If its on top of MSRP, you can try to explain to him that he cannot charge more than the price shown on the website. If he doesnt want to hear anything about it complain to ford directly as mentioned above. So far i have not heard about dealerships in canada adding markups but there was an article recently on insideev's mentioning that there were some dealers adding markups.

I just ordered from a Montreal area dealer in December. He asked for 500$. Fully refundable up until.the day of delivery.

I'm guessing they are confident that if I back out they will find another buyer.

SO not true... The car has an MSRP - that stands for Manufactures SUGGESTED retail price. The dealer can charge whatever he thinks he can get.

This is not the case for this car. Normally you would be right, but this car is a different case. This has been discussed plenty of times in the past. This is why in the states the car was allowed to be ordered online. There is not supposed to be any markup from the dealer.

Thanks for the responses guys; good to have a nice community out there.

But yes. I thought the $500 is a done deal until delivery. For $2500 that was reservation $ for First Editions in Canada. This is confirmed to be just 'more' deposit that applies against the MSRP, but was only announced to me after all this time.

Having it non-refundable just rubs me the wrong way as it seems they want to ensure they are covered now even though it didn't matter previously. Even though I am super serious about this vehicle, not knowing when it gets delivered and of course no demo model it would be nice to know these items before fully fully having it non-refundable (or as per above; shouldn't matter since its a vehicle that will sell anyways).

I'm waiting for them to call me back as they are looking into it (had to go to manager...).

To me, It seems like dealer games (let me speak with the manager and get back to you...) I was trying to avoid these types of games. Not fond of these sale tactics and kind of wish it was all online as per Tesla model (not wishing for SC service though). I initially went to this dealer as it had great reviews with a guy that was part of a mustang club but he since left which is maybe also why they are changing terms.

I'll be sure to update this thread with whatever happens but I won't call out the dealer just yet... see what they come up with first.

To bad I can't just go to Mr Raider's dealer (too far).. If anyone has a recommendation in the Toronto area and/or experience in flipping dealers (for maintaining queue position if it matters?) for Canada reach out.

Thanks!
