18,000 miles and tires are worn out?! Is this normal tire wear?

Does anyone know if this is normal? Seems like new factory tires on the GTPE should last longer than 18k miles. Currently have a flat and they are telling me they are too worn to repair. They are definitely worn. Does Ford warranty cover this? I’m in San Diego. Weather typically is nice/mild with a little bit of rain now and then.
Any thoughts are appreciated.
Thanks!

Typically a UHP summer only is rated between 20k-30k so although that short is on par with what is normal

On a side note, the factory Pirelli is known for being not great in the rain. One of the ways for tire manufacturers to make a low rolling resistance tire is to have it wear rapidly my guess is Pirelli used that line of thinking with these.

You drive a GTPE. Could it be how you drive? The OP of this recent thread got quite a few more miles out of his than you did.

I have over 36,000 miles on my OEM tires (Michelin Primacy 225/55R19) and still have decent treadwear remaining (5/32). Worn out tires at 18K seems abnormal. I am also in San Diego.

I guess it could be how I drive? I have the factory Pirelli’s. I don’t drive crazy, and of the 18k, 12k (guessing) is on the same 8 mile stretch of 65mph straight freeway (ish).

thanks to all for the replies.

There is no correlation to the all-season general use tires’ life expectancy and the Summer UHP tires’ life expectancy. The Summer tires installed on the GT-PE are super-soft and wear like nobody’s business. There is more than one member of the forum who got less than 5K miles out of this OE Summer tires. I would have been in that boat if my dog didn’t contract the stupid cancer. As it was, I mostly drove sedately so I got 16.5K miles out of my Summer tires. Since the Summer tires are a lot stickier than the all-seasons found on the GT, a majority of the performance gain on the Performance Edition is directly related to the tires. When I changed tires I went to all-seasons, but I upgraded the size to 275/40R20s, which required wider rims (20x9.5”). ??

Not to mention, the Pirelli P Zero's which come on the GTPE (unless the all season tires were special ordered on the car), have NO tread wear warranty which is typical for many summer performance tires.

they're performance summer only tires, the P zeros that come on the GT, 18k miles actually seems prtty good longevity for them.

I got 17500 miles out of mine, that was partly because they were delivered to MN in February and no one seemed to know about the fact that they weren't supposed to be used under 45 degrees! Mine cracked up terrible, don't know what they're made of but it doesn't include a lot of rubber.

As others have said, summer / performance tires wear super fast. This is why most (if not all) have no tread wear warranty.

I remember putting some perf’ Dunlaps on my ‘91 CRX si back in the day and being amazed how fast they were worn, and that car weighed nothing.

One of the few exceptions in Maximum Summer Performance Tires with a tread wear warranty is Michelin's Pilot Sport 4S and S 5. They come with a 6 year/30,000 mile tread wear warranty (unless you run a staggered set, then it is 15,000 miles).

LOL you should have seen how fast my T/A wore out my Eagle VR-S tires. Then again the street Celica weighed nothing and it wore its S-compound tires out fast too. ??

I’m starting to agree that I should feel lucky. So if any of you need tips on how to drive and get 18k miles on the summer Pirellis, let me know! :ROFLMAO:
