Well, if you think turning auto updates off is going to prevent updates from installing on your vehicle, then prepare for further disappointment. That only applies to updates that require the vehicle to be inhibited.
Can you give some examples of the uninhibited updates that have been forced on Mach-E's in the past year or two? I don't doubt that Ford can do this, I am just interested in knowing how much it actually happens. Thanks

On the column to the far right, where it says "vehicle unavailable", if you do not see anything there, that is an update that does not require the vehicle to be inhibited while it installs. APIM, GWM and TCU updates will install while a vehicle is on or driving if there is an active OTA trigger in queue for any of those modules regardless of your auto-updates schedule settings.

You have officially blown my mind! I have not voluntarily accepted an OTA update since 3.5.2, in late 2022. But if I look, just for example, at Mach-E v6.2.0, it's an APIM update with no inhibition noted. So, I think you are saying that I may currently have two different software versions - 3.5.2 and 6.2.0 on my car! That is wild. Not to mention that I may also have several more versions that updated without inhibition.

The part I don't understand is where you say "if there is an active OTA trigger in queue". So maybe I never had the active trigger, so I never did get 6.2.0?

EDIT: Upon further review, I am thinking that these uninhibited updates do not actually get installed. Some of them would be obvious - for example, 4.2.2.2 was released over a year ago, and never installed on my car. I do not have the camera icon that it would have added. I checked others, and none of them ever got updated on my car, so I think I am still on v3.5.2 and will stay there.

I would need the VIN to check your OTA history. PM it to me and I'll pull it up for you when I get a chance. Tied up at work right now.

Yes I most definitely trust the OTA updates just as I do for all my devices, nevertheless for my 2021 Mach-e there needs to be an OTA to fix the dang SYNC system where it decides when it wants to connect via bluetooth. Sometimes it asks me to plug in my phone to connect then it leaves me waiting and nothing it abandons me until the next time I restart my car. Please fix this or am I doing something wrong?!?
try holding the volume down and seek right button for about 7 seconds instead of restarting the whole car.

Interesting take.

If a serial killer moves in next door to you, would you say “well, he hasn’t killed me, so I trust him!”
Wow, such a perfect analogy.

And what are your thoughts on the Bunches of people that have had their updates and other repairs put on hold until the 1p software bug is resolved? I think there are a fair number of people that are suffering some pretty significant issues with misplaced trust in OTA updates. That's why I started this thread
I thought I made myself quite clear. I'm sorry others are having significant issues, but what will my getting myself into a lather about it accomplish?

If we show enough owners are in a lather, then maybe Ford will do a better job with our software

Until/unless @Ford Motor Company demonstrates the ability to do a better job testing updates, and provides ways to 'roll back' and 'skip forward' I know I don't plan on turning auto-update back on....

I started the thread mostly to see if there were many other people that felt the same.
I was also interested in this question. Looking at the replies and the survey totals, you have your answer - we are a small minority, among the members of this forum.

Of course, that does not necessarily mean we are wrong...

I'd say you've accomplished that without my help. If and when an OTA update causes me a problem, I'll consider joining in.

It’s called “learning from others experiences.”

I guess it comes from having an older brother, but I never had to experience something bad for myself to realize something was bad.

I was also in the minority in the early days of the HVBJB problem. I was one of the very few that filed a complaint with NHTSA because of possible safety issues with people being stranded in bad places. I got lots of the same responses like what do you care your car is still working, until it became a larger and more obvious issue with more people reporting problems.

The instances of several people being affected with bad software after dealer updates concerns me deeply because there is no way to back out the bad updates. People are stuck waiting for a fix with vehicles that are not operating properly

Who said anything about getting worked up?

The question was about trust.
OP did. He thought that if we "show enough owners are in a lather," maybe Ford would change something with OTA updates. He implied I should be, too.
