The OTA updates are far from perfect. Why doesn't Ford issue small updates continuously instead of large updates that are doomed to fail. They try and fix toooo many issues at once and it just doesn't work. Either the updates are too large and the don't download regularly or the have bugs in them that screws up a past update and cause the system all sorts of problems, some not even related to what they (Ford) is trying to fix

I have an update pending for over a month; Priority Update-Battery Optimization, Module
24-PU0121-FTDI-FX, I
can't get it to download. I took it to my dealer on last Thursday and said my 12v battery is showing only 65%, which according to everyone on the Forum is too low to initiate a download. A long story short, they tested the battery and said it was normal, within range!. Unfortunately my service advisor wasn't at the dealer when I went to pick up my car. I went home and called the Ford Customer Service line to open a case.

I returned this Tuesday and handed they advisor the keys and said I wanted the car checked again and gave him the case number. After 2 days he called me back, The area engineer said that the OTA update in question was already downloaded on a prior visit and the screen, car, computer is stuck in a twilight zone waiting to be cleared. In the mead time I can't do any other updates and the dealership can't override the module or give me other updates manually; meaning I'm dead in the water!!!

Does anyone else have this problem? Does Ford have any plans to correct the issue? The the dealer won't give me a new 12v battery, I'll even pay a prorated amount; they can't clear the module and most of all can't tell me how long until Ford has a fix

My suggestion to Ford, if you're listening, is not to issue large updates, test and re-test your releases and train your dealers on the various issues that may occur. After all this, test your software again!

I leave auto updates on and I FDRS stuff when I see there is something that strikes me as something I want right now. For the most part, there’s been nothing I care about in almost a year, so I have been just waiting for OTAs. My car seems to work fine. I guess that’s one of the benefits of never being in one of the early groups of VINs for OTAs. ??

Yes I most definitely trust the OTA updates just as I do for all my devices, nevertheless for my 2021 Mach-e there needs to be an OTA to fix the dang SYNC system where it decides when it wants to connect via bluetooth. Sometimes it asks me to plug in my phone to connect then it leaves me waiting and nothing it abandons me until the next time I restart my car. Please fix this or am I doing something wrong?!?

Turning off auto-updates will have consequences because you'll likely be permanently stuck behind on updates. Due to how Ford deploys updates in batches, if you miss an OTA batch, you might not get another opportunity to download that particular update. The car will not just "catch up" if you turn them back on after months of being off (only if you're lucky). So turning them off sort of means accepting that you'll be stuck behind on updates for a long time.

There have been a couple "important" updates recently, in particular the 12V battery optimization and PAAK OTAs are something everyone should want to get ASAP. Those alone are worth leaving auto update on.

Yes Ford made mistakes with some of the updates, and it can take up to a year to fix. I've dealt with that before. But getting behind on multiple updates is a bigger deal to me than a small issue introduced here and there.

this is why @Ford Motor Company needs to package 'major updates' into a package that updates multiple modules up to some known compatible set of versions tested and proven to work together. That would enable people (like me) that do not want to deal with bugs and changes in intermediate builds to catch up when there is a collection of stable enhancements that contain something interesting.....

all modules *should* have a version number, and all major.minor builds of PowerUp should have an index of modules.versions that are in it. All module versions *should* have release notes including:
-list of enhancements
-list of bugs fixed
-list of known open bugs reported, but not fixed yet

this is just good practice in software development, testing, release, maintenance

It would also enable people that get a 'bad' intermediate OTA to 'roll-back' to the last major stable update, and wait for the next.

For example.... if a specific version could be identified that was BEFORE the 1-p error bug, wouldn't it be nice to request a rollback to 6.x.y , wait for the fix, and then request 6.x.z which updates whichever modules to their version v.v required for the fix ?

ReMember the saying if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it I’m quite happy with my vehicle now I don’t need any more updates until lane changing. Bluetooth is finally available. Otherwise update is off.

Interesting take.

If a serial killer moves in next door to you, would you say “well, he hasn’t killed me, so I trust him!”

OTA broke my BlueCruise since the end of October. I took my car to the dealer 4x and they can't fix it. Not happy with OTAs.

And what are your thoughts on the Bunches of people that have had their updates and other repairs put on hold until the 1p software bug is resolved? I think there are a fair number of people that are suffering some pretty significant issues with misplaced trust in OTA updates. That's why I started this thread

A more interesting take is that you would compare Fords OTA update process to living next door to a serial killer.......a apples to apples comparison if I ever read one.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. This forum is for your fringe enthusiast not your everyday owner.

I agree, that would be lovely. But I see no indication that Ford is anywhere near capable of this.

When was the last "stable" build? Has there ever been a stable build? Sure, stable is a relative term, but seriously, when was there even a "kinda sorta stable" build? The Level 2 charge rate bug took months and months to finally fix. How about the random "Drive mode not available" thing? Went on for like two years, and actually did they ever fix that one? I think that one is still open (I might have missed it, though - please correct me if I'm wrong.)

I'm afraid Ford has a long way to go before even a major update 'package' could be trusted. And my money says they will never get there. Not for 2021-2023 Mach-E's. Not until the hardware/software architecture is completely overhauled. Someday. Maybe.
