Worst AutoX weather day ever.
43 degrees and rain = Summer tires get real slick.
110miles of range disappeared during the 60 mile drive to the track.
Heat was off and my speed was purposely controlled for range reasons.

I knew of a lessor known charger on site @ RA, be it only Level 2 and 10kwh, at least it was free.
I used it 3 times for a total of 2 hours charge time, and estimate I would have made it home with 10% without charging at all.
That's cutting is close for me, so the Level 2 on site saved my blood pressure from rising on this day, and luckily I was on the only EV on site.

AutoX is highly recommended regardless of car and tire. Just get out and try it, as-is. If you like it, THEN decide if upgrades are worth doing. There's no where else to learn so much about your car, than at events like this...and variable weather.

When conditions were equal (rain) in the morning, so was the competition. In the afternoon, the other guys in the same class got in 4 dry runs and their times were 3-5 seconds quicker than shown below, whereas my last 4 runs were in the rain (again).

Haven't done AutoX in the MachE yet, but my Focus RS was the bomb. I see there's one parked next to you in the pits, same great color too. Get to chatting with that guy at all? I'm curious if the RS is still classified with the Subaru WRX. The subies would always complain since we had 100 more HP than them lol

We were mostly confined to our cars, so we only got to talk to a few people.

The RS and WRX are in the same class. (Times for this group are also mixed with mostly wet and a few dry runs.)

Take any video of your runs? I’m looking forward to getting mine out to an event as soon as I can! Used to run a C7 Z06 in SSL.

What did YOU learn?

What damage can hitting a cone cause? I'd like to go but don't want to get any scratches or worse, with all these bumper sensors (definitely didn't have these concerns when autocrossing in forester xt)

Man. They don't even let EVs on the tracks by me (VIR and Summit Point). I'm jealous...

They used to let EVs on track, but they've all of a sudden gotten worried about fire suppression...

They aren't allowed for most if not all "track days" here either.

The RA AutoX is at the Motoplex track (bikes under 600cc, super moto, karts) not on the big (main) track.

SCCA Track nights and some HPDE events allow EVs.

What tires/wheels are you running? I did several PLAX events this summer in my '22 GT(non PE) with the stock all season tires (cross contact rx) and even after putting 49 PSI into the front, i was pushing like a barge through the turns. Looking to put some much better tires for next season and wondering what others are using.
Thanks!

PZ4, stock summer only tires.

Higher PSI typically results in less traction FYI. Judge psi by the tire outside edge for this level of "racing".

Thanks for the info on the tires you are running!

Hear you on the PSI, for the cross contact rx tires they were rolling way over in corners and just the edges were contacting the road.

I took a full second off of my runs by jacking up the pressure to create stiffer sidewalls resulting in better grip in the front. 😀

Thanks again!

I watched an autox Mini Cooper hit a tree at Bremerton Motorsports Park. I watched a wheel come off of a drift Nissan Sylvia at Bremerton and nearly kill someone. I don't autox or drift anymore. Too many idiots out there. I recommend you don't autox if you care about yourself or your car.

Wow, if you're fearful of being hurt at an AutoX event and recommend to others not to enjoy these ultra-safe automotive events, I recommend you sell your car and not ever drive or even ride a bike.

Just stay sheltered at home, work remote, and have all your requirements delivered. Be safe!
