That may help in a vehicle with a multi-gear transmission by forcing it to stay in a low gear. But in the MME, the L setting just applies more regenerative braking when lifting off the accelerator (assuming 1PD is off). That would not help with this test.
With CVT which has no gears when i put the car in L it helps getting out. Are we sure that L doesnt do more that we are not aware of?

Yes. A CVT is variable, so there’s some advantage to keeping it in a lower speed / higher torque setting. A single speed transmission has no such option. It’s really just a reduction gear. You get full torque right away unless it’s artificial limited to prevent wheel spin.

These kind of "artificial" testing doesn't take 1% of my confidence in the MME driving better than the Model Y

I wouldn’t say that. They’re one of the very few channels that does these type of slip tests, and it was good too see the results. To be fair, I’ve watched a lot of them and the MME didn’t do any worse than most crossovers.
The Honda Pilot appears to handle the three wheel slip test easily.

Cool video. Now we know why most all reviewers have reported the MME is more fun to drive in the twisties.

I dont understand what the L gear is for? Sounds similar to setting one peddle driving on?

But I have never driven an auto so have no idea.

if you’re going down a hill and you want a high level of regen, you would put it in L. If you tried to to use 1PD for this, the car would stop.

L gear just increases regen: It makes the car "feel" like an auto in L when you take your foot off the "gas".

The exception to 1-P mode is that in L the car won't come to a complete stop because it will still creep.

ok understood, L would be used going down hill for example. I remember that the MME used torque vectoring by braking, its something ill have to try myself next winter to see if it makes a difference.I mean in the video he does say that the car determines which wheels are slipping and the brakes clamp down to try to send the power to opposite wheels so maybe increased regenerative braking would help since you dont want to manually apply the brakes when trying to get out.

Regenerative braking happens at the motors, not the wheels, so it wouldn't help with torque vectoring. (not that it would help in a test like this anyway since there's no kinetic energy to recapture)

Yep. There will always be other cars that do certain things better.

I don't need the MME to be the best in every category. I just need it to be quite good in the vast majority of them. Which by all accounts, it is.

The one thing I would have done though was put it in L and not Drive. Most drivers don't realize that by putting in L you send more torque to the wheels and it'll help you get out. Adding more throttle is now the way to get out unless your tires are garbage. Also if the tires were winter tires i think you could get out in the 3 wheel slip test.
But the Tesla was spinning it's left front tire (insufficient tire traction) and the Mach E didn't appear to do so.

You don't need L for downhill. It has Auto Grade Assist.

Memories of heading up Pike’s Peak in full camo. October, 2019. On the decent, the team debuted Auto Grade Assist. Mustang Mach-E will hold and maintain your speed going downhill. No need to control either pedal, the system detects your grade and blends in regen as required to hold the target speed. Neat stuff.
