It does work. I have used it with Plug & Charge and it bills you for the charge through the Blue Oval Charge Network account.does ford plug and charge work with this adapter? I'm guessing it doesn't? In which case the tesla user account would be helpful for the discount
What it DOES NOT do (no adapter does) is identify if you used up for Tesla’s membership rate ($12.99/month) which gets you discount rates when charging. To take advantage of a lower rate you have to use the Tesla app to pay because it doesn’t know your car’s VIN … so it wont know that you paid the $12.99 month). If you’re doing a road-trip and join the plan to get a better rate, you’d probably want to turn Plug & Charge OFF.
These adapters aren’t really “smart”. They are basically wiring input pins to output pins … with the exception that they have a temperature sensor that will stop the charge (I assume this means they disconnect the “proximity pilot” which is one of the small low-voltage pins on the connector) which would cause the charging to stop.
