Same! And hey, it's only Beta 1, so I'll try and revisit it each time a new beta drops.

With the sessions posted, here's the relevant CarPlay related talks that will post sometime today (or now if you're reading this in the future):
What I haven't found yet it much of anything for control center. Perhaps the control center options are related to App Intents? If that's the case, then in theory we could do a lot more than just Control Center. We could use Siri to start our cars.

App Intents alone are simply possible actions exposed by an app; FordPass in this case. Making a set of App Intents is not directly programming Siri, Control Center, or a host of other parts of the OS. The team at Ford needs to make FordPass publish the set of App Intents. Apple handles how and when these intents are activated.

Which is to say, it's a big shout out to have the Mach-E featured in the keynote, even in a small way.

Anyone taking the plunge and install the new iOS yet?
I usually wait until the 2nd beta. I've been bitten with the initial developer betas in the past.

In the Platforms State of the Union, they talked about this a bit more (and really only a bit). They showed the FordPass widget and some sample code that showed how it only takes a line or 2 of code to enable this. I wonder if there will be an update to FordPass sometime in the next week or 2 for iOS.

ugh bummer, thanks for checking! was really hoping it'd let you at least add the NACS connector so it wouldn't insert the CCS stops still
How would it know if you have an NACS adapter or not? It's not the "apple way" to let a user configure something like that. ;)

While watching the WWDC Keynote, Craig Federighi the Senior Vice President of Software Engineering at Apple Inc., just showed how to add new controls to the Control Center on iOS 18. He chose adding his car widget to the Control Center and then resize it. It showed Mustang Mach-e. He then tapped it to turn on the A/C. Hopefully, if the SVP of Software Development at Apple has a Mach-e, Apple can push Ford to get better integration.

Which version of Ford Pass are you running ?
Mine is on 5.0.2

And because of this - going to try iOS 18 Beta on my work phone.

If it bricks it, then I'll get a new phone courtesy of the government....

I’ve only ever run Beta software on my iPhone and it has never bricked. You will be fine.

I think in another thread (or even on page 1 of this one) someone already tried it and got nothing. My guess is that they probably have a beta of FordPass and were using it to show off.

I also saw on Twitter that Jim Farley posted the same screenshots and was excited to see it. I'm sure he knew that Apple was going to show it off ;)

I think Apple extended the App Intents framework in iOS18 to expose controls in the Control Center so you need a new FordPass built with these changes. From a WWDC24 session today:

Bring your app’s core features to users with App Intents
Learn the principles of the App Intents framework, like intents, entities, and queries, and how you can harness them to expose your app's most important functionality right where people need it most. Find out how to build deep integration between your app and the many system features built on top of App Intents, including Siri, controls and widgets, Apple Pencil, Shortcuts, the Action button, and more. Get tips on how to build your App Intents integrations efficiently to create the best experiences in every surface while still sharing code and core functionality.
Edit: So the new App Intents functionality is used with the WidgetKit framework to build the controls to drop into the Control Center:

Controls
Controls allow people to perform actions from your apps in Control Center, the Lock Screen, and from the Action button. You can create a control that acts as a button or a toggle. For example, a button can execute an action from your app or open your app to a specific view, and a toggle can turn a light on and off or open and close a garage door.

I wish Ford and other EV makers would give us an option to upgrade the computer chips needed for these features. I'd appreciate a more responsive user interface, but more than that, I'd really love to have access to CarPlay 2 when it comes out. Instead, I'll likely have to wait until I replace my entire vehicle. Sure, I'm good with CarPlay (stability with wireless CarPlay has come a long way since I first bought the car), but I'm also into technology. It seems like auto manufacturers are getting it but aren't fully there yet.

What good is a FordPass control center widget going to do me? Seems like just an alternate way to do what I occasionally do on FordPass but, not really, a better way.

Yeah, it's a couple of swipes and taps either way. However, my guess (disclaimer: I'm not an Apple Developer) is that whatever upgrade to fordpass happens to enable it in Control Center will likely also drive Siri interactions - that's what I'm really hoping for is to just ask Siri to start the car, etc.

A homescreen widget would be awesome too.
