They are going to have to improve in build quality and road noise as more competitors come into the market place. Ford and VW both will have compelling product available for sale in the marketplace by the middle of 2021. Audi/Porsche aren't far behind. In a few years the floodgates will be open and Tesla will have to fight for sales just like everyone else...they we will see if their valuations are justified.

Yeah...the Taycan is an amazing vehicle. Probably the best EV in the entire market. I was referring to the Q4 etron and Macan EV which are coming and will be priced much closer to the Model Y/Mach E etc.

The Taycan is a $100k vehicle. For budget reasons it probably wont work for most people. Even a $50k car is a chunk of change to pay ... but within the budget of many more people. I think these 250+ mile range cars in a $50k price category likely will put a squeeze on Tesla. Negative publicity about Tesla quality isn't going to help them when a year later there are several compelling alternatives.

I know people that work for Tesla, and even more who left because of how they choose to operate... Basically there is no QC, just get it out the door and deal with it later.

Having gone to the Refuel EV track days at Laguna Seca a couple times, I've noticed how longer term Tesla owners have changed their tune a bit. 5 years ago they were a pretty cocky bunch who stuck to themselves and didn't really mix with any other EV owners. Last year they were generally still pretty cocky, but a bunch were actively looking for other EVs after having been supremely let down by the lackluster reliability and downright awful service. Anyone that had issues that required parts were complaining of waiting for months and still not knowing if they'd get a part as simple as a bumper, panel or trim piece, or what would normally be warrantied having to be paid out of pocket.

Yep. Then throw in the $7500 federal tax credit that everyone except Tesla and GM still get. Until Ford, VW, Nissan (which is getting close), Volvo, and the others use theirs up, Tesla is at a serious disadvantage now.

Of course, they got that same advantage for years as they used up their 200,000 tax credits.

MME is a 2021 year car. Always has been. You’ll have to wait until end of this year before you can count... but I’ll save you the wait... it will be 50,000.
Every car ever built is sold. It might be at a huge discount, but I don't think that will be the case with the Mach E. In the case of the Mach E, though, the limitation is the production capability of Cuautitlan. Remember, this was supposed to be a compliance vehicle, and sales expectations were low. I think the initial JPH was 22, so that's about 46,000 vehicles per year on a single shift. It's not as simple as adding another shift to double the volume, either, because we don't know if the battery supplier is already working double shifts to meet the current demand, for example. The cells are LG, but the assemblies are built offsite at another supplier.

I'll start;
  • More options: RWD/AWD, long range/standard range, select/premium/California Rt1/GT
  • Dashboard display
  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • Wireless Apple CarPlay & Android Auto
  • Real buttons where you need them
  • Support from local dealers located everywhere
  • $7,500 Federal tax credit
– Higher quality interior materials
– Quieter cabin
– Better driving dynamics
– No heat pump issues (New M3 + MY have issues).
– Subjective: Doesn’t look, well, weird (MY).

Well here we go, interesting video everyone should watch. Interesting that she didnt want to speculate but she did echo my sentiments on the Tesla heat pump issue

I’m sure there is another thread for this. But since someone mentioned it here...

what’s the big deal with the ID.4? Price? To me it is just a compliance car. I know there is, but too lazy to switch boards. It doesn’t have the style or character of a Mach e. I truly believe the Mach e is such a hit because of its looks, style comfort at the $50k price point. Seems kind of like Ford hit the sweet spot. People who can afford them are the ones more likely to switch to BEV and now they have the looks and performance, such that you don’t have to be a tree hugger to buy one.
I think at $40k for ID.4 you aren’t converting people. I think $30k(prior to rebates) you are converting the masses to BEV.

When Ford comes out with a $30k 200+ mile range Edge or even a Ranger, then you will see the masses make the move to BEV. But who knows when that will be. Making a profit on the Mach e is impressive. Making a profit on a eEdge or Ranger is damn near impossible right now.

I don't think the ID.4 is a compliance car, the e-golf was their compliance car. This car was designed ground up.
1) The price
2) The space
3) EV

Maybe in the U.S. there isn't much of a price difference but elsewhere I think the ID.4 will be quite a bit cheaper than the MME which is why it will be popular. A lot of people still have brand loyalty also and for that matter continent loyalty. They would rather buy a Euro over an American car

While I agree that the Mach-E is special, most vehicles on the road aren't. There's nothing really special about a CR-V or RAV4 or Escape either, but they're good functional vehicles that sell well. The ID.4 should be similar, other than being a BEV. After the $7500 tax credit it starts at $32,500, less in some states. That's still about $7k more than the base version of those ICE models, but that's getting close enough to seriously consider it (when factoring in the fuel savings with 98% home charging).
