"The cars are great but the build quality is nowhere to be found."

"They (service centers) are to be avoided at all costs."

"Rattles asTesla owners, is somewhat we, unfortunately, expect from this company."

Mach E on order

I’m sure there is another thread for this. But since someone mentioned it here...

what’s the big deal with the ID.4? Price? To me it is just a compliance car. I know there is, but too lazy to switch boards. It doesn’t have the style or character of a Mach e. I truly believe the Mach e is such a hit because of its looks, style comfort at the $50k price point. Seems kind of like Ford hit the sweet spot. People who can afford them are the ones more likely to switch to BEV and now they have the looks and performance, such that you don’t have to be a tree hugger to buy one.
I think at $40k for ID.4 you aren’t converting people. I think $30k(prior to rebates) you are converting the masses to BEV.

When Ford comes out with a $30k 200+ mile range Edge or even a Ranger, then you will see the masses make the move to BEV. But who knows when that will be. Making a profit on the Mach e is impressive. Making a profit on a eEdge or Ranger is damn near impossible right now.
I do not think the ID.4 is a compliance car. It is a purpose built EV platform not a repurposed ICE vehicle.

agree it is not a compliance car. But it will share almost over 60% of the same parts with 4 other VW vehicles. Some of the reviews point that out. That is one of the reasons they like the mache. It is its own right now.

I don’t think ID.4 is what the EV world calls a compliance car. I think you mean it is more of a utilitarian vehicle.

Agree. It is just a car. The only aspirational part is that it is a BEV. It is no more exciting than a Ford Escape, which, by the way, is a very good car.

So you would feel exactly the same if it were a front wheel drive ford leaf? ?

You mean if Ford had made an E Escape instead of the Mach E? If Ford had made an ID4-like BEV, I would still buy it over the Tesla Y, but I clearly would not be as excited as I am about the MUSTANG Mach E.

If Ford made an E-Escape, I would have bought the Model Y instead--no brainer. Now, if Ford made an E-EDGE, I'd have to give it a long look. Tough decision.

Kind of hard to say based on just speculation isn't it though? My Escape has been one of my favorite and most versatile cars I have owned. Good mileage, decent space, AWD for Ohio winters, comfortable, and last week I towed a trailer from Columbus, OH to VA with a riding mower in it. I have been really happy with my Escape. Until Ford went the Mustang route, I really thought their first BEV would be an Escape variant. Needless to say I am happier with the Mustang even more.

You may miss the trailer option

Yes, I already do. Not so much the trailer towing . . . that was not an experience that I enjoyed. Towing KILLED the mileage on the Escape, and I spent as much time looking in the rearview as out the front windshield.
What I WILL miss is the hitch mount for my bike rack. That will be SORELY missed.

What will you do, install something on the roof?
