Is it safe to shift to drive when still rolling backwards in reverse?

This is a big no-no in an automatic transmission, but with one pedal driving, I find myself waiting a long time for the car to stop once I've let my foot off the gas rolling backwards out of my driveway. Is it safe to toggle into drive while still moving backwards with an EV "transmission"?

Yes, but I would recommend shifting only when you aren't pressing the brake. If you're in drive or reverse, as soon as you shift into/past neutral it will lock the brakes. This is because it's using regen (motor) braking at low braking force but doesn't use regen braking in Neutral.
So just let off the brakes before you do it, it only let's you do it up to a certain speed anyways. I think past maybe 10 mph you can't shift from D to R.

Yes, if you use 1PD keep your foot on the pedal slightly when you switch gears or the front motor will have a spasm and make loud banging noises (this has been a bug in the software for a long time).

I haven’t had an issue doing that. If you hear a clunk then don’t do it.

Yup, just explained in a reply.
Neutral only uses the brake rotors, so as soon as you shift past neutral it stops regen braking and clamps the piston brakes hard to compensate.

I do it all the time, no problem whatsoever, the car’s systems are sufficiently intelligent to safeguard against any problem, if going too fast it won’t go into opposing gear, just avoid going into Park when moving.

Above a certain speed it won’t go into park either.

I’d brake first before switching to Drive. I switched too fast once from R to D and got a tranmission fault. Luckily the fault on the dash went away on the next drive and never had an issue with it since.

Corrrrrrect! Tried that, too, and at 80mph in an ICE on an investigation. Won’t go into reverse at 80mph either, thank F ?

I've done it with no ill effects before, but this last time the car started throwing a bunch of brake-related error codes. They did, however, go away the next day - but every time I started the car that same day the errors came up and I lost the power brakes.

Scared the bejesus out of me so I've vowed never to shift so quickly again ?

I would say clunks and spasms are not what you want your car doing. I live by two ethos in life: 1. Don't stick sharp pencils into your ears, 2. Don't screw with the gear selector while your car is moving. It's been working out pretty well so far.
