Don’t rely on the ideology of a gasser aka Petro heads. They don’t know what it feels to not pump $100 into their tank every week and you won’t convince them that they don’t need to go 400 miles every day Autoparts & Big O are convincing them. They need lifetime parts ie alternator, starter water, pumps, hoses clamps they was born that way.

Ev community must stick together. The gassers are sick in the head

?

oh, I’ve heard all sorts of drivel from ICE age man telling me why EVs will never work and catch on, and to a Level 4 Techsafe EV engineer and 91,000 mile driver never had problem getting a charge etc etc

Their expertise on the subject is usually limited by their own experience which is about five eights of zero expressing opinions that are tainted by an unfathomable prejudice ?

Each to their own, I say.

Most of my vehicles are ICE. They all have a purpose. For instance, were I to be dragging a bunch of decoys and my waders with my dog and me, I would choose the Blazer. Expediency of interior volume. If I want to have an insane amount automotive entertainment, the T/A is the ticket. Expediency of performance. My daily driver is the MME. Expediency of convenience and comfort. ?‍♂?

Ranting that people who drive ICE are “sick in the head” is nothing but an ad hominem.??

I think there’s a distinction between “Gassers” and ICE age man who impose their anti EV views on others and those who drive ICE vehicles, like the wife………..though only 1,500 miles per year, don’t think she’s a Gasser?

When I dare, I’ll ask her.

Not spoken to her for 15 years - I just don’t like to interrupt?

I didn't take OPs post to indicate anyone driving an ICE vehicle is bad, at least I hope not. But maybe more those that get on an EV owner that their choice is wrong for a number of reasons you may not have found to be accurate.

My dad is one of those people, and even though he knows we have had two EVs that were both daily driven throughout the year in Michigan, a state that gets just about all the weather except hurricanes, continues to tell me that EVs "don't work" in cold weather and how long it takes to charge and on and on.

He hears about it from his news sources and that's all he needs, he doesn't want to hear that our MME has been in below 0 weather and works just fine, that my ICE F-150 also gets lower mileage in the winter due to a combination of factors, and that even then we have never come close to being left stranded.

That type of mentality is exhausting. They have heard from others that don't own EVs about how bad it is, and won't listen to someone that has lived with them for a while.

This isn't to say there aren't pros/cons of either, and isn't an EV only argument either. We still have the ICE F-150 because if we go on a 6+ hour drive, it's still the far more convenient vehicle, especially with four of us. But that's a rare thing and is easily overshadowed by the time I spend filling it up at gas stations, oil changes, the general sluggishness of an ICE powertrain, even one that is more powerful than the MME at peak.

I see EVs as superior in most cases, but fully accept it isn't for everyone. That said, people that say it it won't work for anyone or even most people are frustrating.

I may have already told this story, so forgive if you have already heard.

I remember driving through Louisiana when I was younger (a long time ago) and asking my dad about a shack that had a really nice and expensive center console Robollo moored to the pier.
He explained that if he had to guess, whoever lived there had a different set of priorities than most.

I was intrigued, but didn't relate. Couldn't relate.

Fast forward to today. I'm a widower of 10 years, and so I lost my soulmate of 32 years, and in context, the voice of reason. Lol
I slowly turned into the fella in Louisiana. Rather than a shack, it's an RV on 11 acres that are rural enough that there's no cable or internet or city water or sewer. Don't get the wrong idea though because the little RV is modern and plenty comfortable. I have AT&T cellular and recently Starlink internet. Not roughing it in the least.

But about that Robollo....... :)

It's a barn, in my case. A man cave with my gasoline powered transportation machines. An assortment of acquisitions. Lots of motorcycles, a couple of toy cars, (2-seat manual transmission analog grin makers) and an F150 Powerboost. The truck being the nicest and most expensive vehicle I have purchased to date.

So am I not the sick-in-the-head that you must stick together to protect(?) yourself from? ???

And why am I even here?

I impulse purchased a lightly used 2018 Nissan Leaf about a year ago. I was well aware that most folks would never stereotype me as an EV driver. But I am pretty immune to the current culture of politics and mainstream hogwash. ?
I was just curious from an engineering point what an EV would be like to live with, so to speak, and the entry co$t to find out with that used Leaf was far from scary.
Any EV owner can guess what I discovered over the first few months of dailying in the Leaf. EV's are a hoot! And they are really good at what they are really good at.
6 months of EV reality led to the acquisition of the 2023.5 GTPE. The rest is history. I doubt I will ever be without an EV. Amazing machines!

However, I also doubt it will be soon that I would be without a gasser. Because they too are really good at what they are really good at. Especially the latest examples, like the Powerboost. Incredible utility!

So in my opinion the subject of this thread starts with a bogus notion at its core. A typical bid to choose either/or. Prevalent in so many debates about so many things.

I often find myself choosing both or neither these days, when pondering the request to choose a side. At the risk of ending up on an island, admittedly. ???

Personally I think that there is an issue when people think they are better than others because of what they chose to drive. I have both and use both and I can assure you my ICE rig is way more comfortable to drive at -30F. Likewise hauling 6 grandchildren or several bicycles. My daily driver; though, is my Mach. Sometimes I wonder if the gasser pushback is just due to some EV drivers attitudes.

I don’t entirely blame them for not “getting it” because it is a completely different way to think about “fueling” a car.

They are accustomed to the idea that you drive until the fuel gauge says you are low, then find a gas station and fill up (usually at least once per week).

When you have an EV …most owners plug in every night and don’t even think about it.

I tell them (and I wish I could take credit for this analogy but I didn’t come up with it): “Imagine you own a gas pump in your garage. Every morning when you wake up, you have a full tank of gas. In that world, would you really care where the gas stations are located?

In the roughly 3.5 years since getting my first Mach-E … I think only maybe twice did I manage to use enough energy on extended trips and errands that I need to stop at a DCFC for energy and those days had a LOT of driving.

Hey everyone, long time listener, first time caller...
The concerns are valid, I was a gasser until March, but instead of alternators and fuel pumps I worry about my door not opening, a charge fault and/or HVJB blowing out on vacation.
I just happend to purchased a house with a 240 pre-installed in the garage.
I was able to get an insane discount and had a trade in for a 2013.5 and a dealership less than 2 miles from my home.
A lot of stars have to allign for people to be able to afford and not be inconvenienced.
If any of those 3 criteria that kinda fell into my lap by chance didn't happen, I would've never considered it.

I live in a place with lots of folks who are influenced by the politicization of EV acceptance. So I have a well-practiced way of answering questions about my Mach-E. Generally I make the following points:
  • Great performance, zero noisy drama when driving.
  • The choice to use EV propulsion has nothing to do with what energy source goes into generating the electricity.
  • EV cars can offer their owners the freedom to get that energy from various sources, including home solar.
  • In south Louisiana, my 33-mile drive to work costs $1 in electricity on average.
  • In my specific case, tire wear rate is the same as with ICE cars: around 50k miles before replacement.
  • In three years using my car, I've never been stranded. (your mileage may vary ...)
  • Zero chance of carbon monoxide poisoning, gas leaks, and other hydrocarbon-related risks.
  • I talk frankly about EVs being effortless and ideal for day-to-day commuting for those who can charge at home, but less so for apartment dwellers with long commutes to workplaces that lack charging.
Here are the things I chose not to bring up, because they are often counter-productive:
  • The transition from ICE to EE propulsion will take some specific number of years.
  • Global climate change requires that individuals must use EVs. (It is worth noting that most of Louisiana's CO2 emission comes from industrial processes, not industrial + household energy production, and the big picture is much more complicated than our car choice.)
  • In fact, I prefer not talking about this as a transition, as that implies ICEs will be banned. It also sounds like the opposite of freedom, which irritates people.

Short answer: YES.

Long answer: Yes. Some EV enthusiasts, just like some eco-warriors, are insufferable. And there is absolutely a pushback. Most people on “the other side” are perfectly happy to just be left alone. They get grumpy when they see an agenda being shoved down their throats. And I don’t blame them. And to be honest, I’m one of them.

I was anti EV, then I saw the Mach when my Escape died on me.

Nice ride I don’t stripe mine although stripes look sweet. I’ll let the gassers stripe there petrol heads so they get the blame for speeding. While they accelerate their gas machines to nowhere bunch of yelling no moving. Missionary gasser position, yelling and getting nowhere.

I don't understand the hate of EVs. You want one, buy one. You don't, DON'T! I went to a charging station on the Turnpike and someone had shot the screen out. That's just
20231111_215642.jpg
crazy.
I’m not denying that some people maliciously target chargers. To be fair, though, lots of the gas pumps I visit have some sort of vandalization, too.
