Hi, all

I need some urgent assistant. I am currently 300km away from home in a small town where the close Ford dealership is 100km away. I charged my car on a Layer 2 charger, and now the charger would release from the my car. I tried multiple times and tried to manual release the charge coupler, but still not work. Is there any Ford Engineer online is able to try remote release it or try reboot the system and I can try again?

Are you sure the charger is completely turned off? And, did you try pushing the little black button on the car to the right of the connector? Simple fixes I have overlooked once or twice. Ben

Ford Mustang Mach-E [Urgent] charger lock wouldn't release IMG_8485

The MachE does not lock the charge cable into place when using an L2 charger.

You likely have a defective L2 cable where the release button is not operable.
Can you share a pic of the situation?

You've tried wiggling it? Lifting up to relieve and stress? Does it move at all?

When you push that oval silver button on the charge cable connector, does it depress at all? Or its firm and won't budge?

Yeah, AFIK, the only thing holding the level 2 charger in place is that lock button at the top of the charger handle. Seems like it must be broken or just very tight. Might take some disassembly. There is a manual release for level 3 charging inside the frunk but I believe it’s only for that level 3 electrical lock that is normally released by the button in the light circle. That doesn’t activate for level 2.

It’s extremely rare. And I hope it’s not the case.

If the handle is defective or damaged, there is a possibility of weak connection. Weak connection can lead to melted metal, which can fuse the connector to the car’s charging port.

This is a good reminder to always look at the charge pins and cavity of any cable before plugging it into your car.

I've seen public L2s that were treated very poorly and plastic is cracked or missing pins in there.

And even at my home charger (outdoors), bugs will crawl in there and get smushed into my charge port upon connecting. Doesn't matter once, but after this happened many times (I didn't notice at first), I had to q-tip a bunch of bug gunk out of both the cable and charge port.

Level 2 (AC) charging plugs don't "lock" to the car the way DC Fast Chargers lock ... but they usually have a catch-hook and pressing the button releases the catch-hook.

My guess is the plug on the end of that cable has a broken button that doesn't release the "hook".

I'm not sure if this procedure will work, but it's worth a try (I have never needed to use this myself):

is it possible to call the tech people for that level 2 charger? This seems like an issue with their equipment since level 2 does not lock on mach e

there is no lock, it's unlikely the handle has a lock either (because there's nothing to lock on to)

all prior instances of this was something wrong with the handle, i.e. it fused to the car. generally only solution was pulling it out hard...
