I think I’m going to do the same thing Jerry, but probably on the passenger side. It’s cheap insurance until we know there is an actual fix actually received. When the car is at home it’s in the garage, nose out, driver’s window down.
Sounds like a winner like I did, I made sure the string I got was very heavy pound test wise, but very thin, plus you could melt it with a match to take care of the loose strands on the end and by it being tucked in the door I don’t even notice it now. The only reason I notice is because it’s by the lever when I open the door! I know the blue tape looks bad, but that’s the only paper tape I’ve looked at so far because you don’t want real strong tape like duct tape because you may not be able to pull the screen if it’s too secure.

Nice installation Jerry.

@Ford Motor Company really needs to get a director of software development that knows what 'best practices' are in development, testing, release, and maintaining complex software libraries requires.
Exactly. Whoever the current director is, he/she should be fired. Their OTA management is a total disaster. I saw on an owner on reddit complainting that his 14-month old kid's stroller and car seat were stuck in the car. What if it was a child the next time?

The capacitors in the door are supposed to be able to allow the door to open several times even when the battery is dead, but can’t unlock the door.
What does it mean to 'lock' a door that has no physical handle to require a physical lock?

Rreddy, I don’t care if I take a personal shot to the head or some statement that this is disgusting for a $50,000 automobile but I’m sticking with my option in this photo cause I ain’t calling a tow truck unless absolutely necessary, I’m sorry.?

They are on the back doors only. They enable a person otherwise trapped in the back seat of a “dead” vehicle to exit. Not necessary on the front doors because they have a mechanical release function (pull the handle twice).
The front doors also have supercapacitors. I've confirmed the front doors open from the outside with the 12V disconnected, WHEN UNLOCKED. In the context of this issue, the doors will not open from the outside regardless of power source since they remain locked. The glitch prevents the unlock signal from reaching the door latch modules.

I think I’m going to do the same thing Jerry, but probably on the passenger side. It’s cheap insurance until we know there is an actual fix actually received. When the car is at home it’s in the garage, nose out, driver’s window down.

Any ideas why some cars suffer from this glitch and others don't?

It's already happened. There was a post on here a few weeks ago where the owner had to call emergency services and the FD ended up breaking a window to open the car.

Yup.

Previous gateway OTA.

Ford Mustang Mach-E 2 Mach-E family. Both have bricked. Lockouts_PTS_31-Jul-24_1

It was either the OTA process itself or the gateway module software, one or the other. But the fix was a new revision of the software, and a new OTA rollout.

I proactively disconnected my 12V battery to clear any state that might contribute to the lockout and never actually had the problem. I also do most updates using FDRS (if that matters in this case).

I didn't disconnect my battery after receiving the problem ota and have had no issues. I suppose that will change now. Maybe my car was built on Tuesday.

Lee, I’m trying to figure out exactly what you’re saying. I’m sorry I’m a little slow on this, so are you saying the string that I’ve got connected that I’ve left the keys in the house, I’ve left the phone in the house and I can’t get into the car, but when I pull the string the door open. Are you saying the string is not gonna work in a certain situation or it is gonna work? I’m sorry.

String will always work to pull the mechanical door latch. Just have to pull twice. Once to unlock and the second time to open.

Right, thank you because I did try it on the rear doors. It definitely does not work on the rear doors and I did not disconnect any battery, but I just assumed if I didn’t have any keys near me or the phone that it would be the same as a totally locked out vehicle. And I admit, I am a total idiot on electronics, so why I want electric car I don’t know why, lol, but I do know that when I was in the Navy, we used to always charge these little capacitors and let someone grab one and watch them shock the hell out of themselves so if there are super capacitors, I know there’s powers still there even though it acts like there’s no power so I’m sure the string will always work. Thank you.

There are no mechanical latches on the rear doors, so the string won't work there.
