Did Ford make a change to the charge curve? This seems about 4-6 mins faster than a lot of sessions.

Personal anecdote, my DCFC charge times did seem a few mins quicker this summer compared to years past.

The charge curve definitely looks different, if not lower power. Charge times have in the past been around 41-44 mins.

You can tell that I’ve never DC charged before (and my 3 yr warranty is almost up).

Because I read the title of the thread, knew the exclamation point meant this is supposed to be a big deal.

But I had no clue if 39 minutes was supposed to be extra fast or extra slow.

Yes, there have been several revisions to the charge curve since the Mach-E came out. I think I've mentioned I've also seen 10-80% charge times around 39 minutes. The time it holds 100+ kW is a lot longer now.

If you can optimize your charging stops to arrive at 10% and charge to less than 80%, you'll see the most benefit. You can do 10% to 70% in about 30 minutes.

This would be a good excuse to have CSP 23B50 done by your dealer if you haven't yet.

Me too….and back in 1908 most people boasted that they could simply throw a bale of hay into their horse’s stall instead of having to find fuel for “…one of those noisy contraptions”. As Mark Twain once said, “..history doesn’t repeat itself, but it frequently rhymes.” We are now living through one of those rhyme times…..

By contrast, this current generation of EVs has regressed from ICE in a major way.

And this illustrates one of the primary two hurdles to mass adoption (the other being cost) - people on this board excited about it “only” taking 39 minutes the fill up the tank to 80%. Gah, as a member of “the EV tribe,” this makes me cringe.

one difference to remember is that many EV owners, like me, charge entirely at home for our use-case, and so the 39 minute torture doesn’t factor in to our situations. Self-fueling at home is a benefit never before available that EV’s allow!!

We've been using mostly Superchargers lately and they are slower than the EA 350s. Last night, we went to the flagship EA station in SF. I should have done a full 10-80 charging test but we were more concerned about making a video on the EA flagship facility. It did seem be pretty quick charging but it might just be that I was getting used to Superchargers.

In case anyone is wondering, we're finding that we can hit about 152 kW on a Supercharger which isn't bad, but by 50% SOC, we're only charging at 70kW. On an EA 350 kW, we can peak at 166kW and at 50% SOC we are at about 100 kW.

You'd typically only do a charge like this when you're traveling, and if you're traveling you'll generally want to be stopping for a meal and a leg-stretch.

Depends on the use case. I calculated the time I spend at a DCFC and I now spend less time at a charger than I used to pumping gas over the course of a year. Obviously, I don’t road trip a lot!

Whether it's "major" or not depends on your use case. There are EV owners who have literally never had to use a DC fast charger because they've got L1/L2 options that serve all their needs.

I won't deny that refuel intervals are a disadvantage, sure, but for me they're not a dealbreaker and I suspect for many it doesn't come out as bad as they might fear. I've done a lot of road tripping in my MME this summer and found that longer charging stops gave me an opportunity to catch up on email and work reading, for instance. I was pleased to discover that YouTube is now working in Canada, so that will be another option for stops.

One little-considered benefit to EV charging over petrol refueling: at least you have the option of walking away from the car, so in theory you have more flexible use of the time you're spending.
