Manually Opening the Rear Liftgate on Select

Howdy!

The last couple of days the Rear Liftgate new 2023 Select std range did not unlock when I pressed the button under the liftgate. Had to use the FOB to unlock it and was unable to recreate the event shortly afterwards.

Happened again today leaving work to go get my personalized license plates. Wouldn't unlock. The FOB was in my pocket. Placed the FOB in my hand near the tailgate and nothing. Again I used the FOB to unlock it.

Am I too close to the vehicle? I've had FOB activated tailgates on (3) Escapes, an F150, and an Explorer without issues.

I'm having a similar experience. I use phone as a key, and previously I could walk up to the car and unlock the (fully manual) liftgate with the little button. It seems to have stopped working that way.

Possibly some update???

My car's been behaving that way for months, maybe since new. I always have the fob in my pocket so I look at it as merely an inconvenience.

Going to set "watch" on this thread as I'm curious how this problem gets solved.

My 2023 Mach-e is almost 2 years old and the liftgate has opened flawlessly until I took my car in a week ago to get tires rotated and now if the car is locked, the lift gate will not open when I push the button. The rear yellow lights just flash but no opening. If I unlock the car with one of the doors, then the lift gate will open. This behavior is the same for the FOB and phone as a key.

I went back to the dealer and they said to make an appointment and they would look at it. The next available appointment was January 29…

Have you tried pushing the button on the lift gate twice. That’s the way mine seems to work: the first push blinks the lights and unlocks it, the second push opens it.

I’ve tried pushing it 10 times and all I get is blinking lights until I unlock a door…
