After updating to IOS 18 on phone Car Play no longer displays notification of a message at the bottom of the screen. Anyone else have this issue? Ive checked all settings and they seem to be correct. Curiously, in the CarPlay settings, Announce Messages is on, but below the toggle it says "message announcements is currently silenced". I do get a ding that there is a new message, and the messages do show up in the message app lists.

Same here, getting no notifications on CarPlay after update. Only calls is displayed on screen.

Is the Message app on your phone set to "Require Face ID"?

Can't find the "require Face ID" setting, messages are ON in Car play. Here is a work around - when car play dings with new message, ask Sir to display your messages. Siri then will read the message just like it did before if you touched the message at the bottom of the screen. BTW, similar complaints on Apple community website.

Same here (16 Pro, iOS 18.1). Have had iOS 18 beta since June and haven't had any issues with notifications displaying messages as they come in on CarPlay. Many times as updates come in they can change settings to their default that is why I mentioned in an earlier post above to make sure that Notifications has "Show in CarPlay" turned on. ALSO you might want CarPlay to announce new messages: Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri > Announce Notifications > CarPlay > Messages > Announce New Message.

I had no issues on iOS 18 or on the 18.0.1 I’m on now. Sorry.

Had a message yesterday where I got the notification and when I taped the message it played the summary version (AI feature) and then asked if I wanted to hear the entire message. I definitely liked the summary feature!

Hi, OP here. Where in Notifications is the "Show in CarPlay turned on" setting?

iPhone Settings > Notifications > Messages > Show in CarPlay. Make sure the toggle is green (ON).

ALSO you might want CarPlay to announce new messages as they come in: Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri > Announce Notifications > CarPlay > Messages > Announce New Message.

Announce Notifications was already on when I just checked. Show in CarPlay was also toggled on.

I switched it off and back so maybe that will fix the glitch.

Works fine for me, as mentioned make sure you have announce turned on. If the "driving focus" mode activates that might also disable reading of text messages, so I would make sure that's off if you want to hear everything.
