After getting a surprise APIM OTA (Sync 1270) with the new and vastly improved Public Charging app on the 7th;
Ford Mustang Mach-E The Complete DIY Guide to Updating Your Mach-E with FDRS APIM_Sync_1270_OTA_10-1-0

I checked this evening to find I had a new TCU update. That really wasn't much of a surprise though, since TCU updates often follow right after an APIM update.

I don't expect to see any noticeable differences simply because it is a TCU update...so whatever functional improvements were made, or features enabled, it will likely be transparent to me.

This obviously will come as an OTA to others, but I have no clue what the number might be at this point.

EDIT: it turns out that it was released to my car as an OTA at the same time it became available in FDRS. Here are the notes.

It is OTA 10.1.1

Thinking about buying a license today to do updates - anyone else using FDRS today? Just want to make sure it isn't down before ponying up...

I was online twice today with it.

It's Sunday morning's that you have to worry about, but that's usually only a couple of hours at most anyway.

Hey all, new to the forum with a brand new 22 GTPE I got for a great deal as it was sitting on the dealer lot!

I promised myself I wouldn’t tinker too much with the car, but my electrical engineering and automotive background is kicking in and I’m having trouble getting OTA updates or just being impatient.

I used to update industrial controllers so using something like FDRS to update my car doesn’t scare me. Everyone seems to really like the mongoose as a J2534 device. I’ve been around long enough to know some cheaper knock offs exist and can cause issues but wanted to get someone’s thoughts on something like this which seems to be a newer product: https://www.topdon.us/products/rlink-j2534

Also, would having something like this replace the need for a vlinker for forscan or car scanner?

Thanks!

Go ahead and be the trailblazer. There's been issues with some of the cheaper Chinese clones in the past. Make sure they have good software support before purchase. The Mongoose is expensive but time tested and made by a company Ford recommends.

I'm sure you saw my post on the other thread concerning your tires. If the dealership gives you any grief about the tire cracks on your Summer Pirelli's...remind them that they are the ones who let the car sit on the lot for two years in temps that were well below the recommended values in the manual. So the development of the cracks happened on their watch.

I've just purchased one of these Topdon Rlink devices to try updating my '21 in the UK as nothing seems to coming OTA any more. I've previously tried the Mongoose (flawless but too expensive for me) and VCX FD. The VCX FD worked fine for some FDRS module updates but seemed to struggle to update my IPMA when I last tried it. Didn't seem to cause any ASBUILT nodeid corruption that was an issue with the previous VCX Nano however. I'll give the Topdon Rlink a try in the next week or two and post here how I get on.

If it works, more power to you and I genuinely hope it works.

I couldn't swallow bricking my car with an off brand one. The way I saw it, I just purchased something that was $50k and spending an extra $1000 including the power supply, was 2% of the car's price and something I could justify for a peace of mind.

I use this and it works great. Use on the MME and the Lightning. Works great with FDRS and FORscan.

Just pulled the plug on the Mongoose adapter to finally sort out a 12v drain issue (uninitialized TRM module) and get all the updates that are pending. I could have continued to fight with the dealer, but my time and energy is also worth something so this is probably the easiest way out. And fun to get to tamper with it :)

I have used PIWIS to work with my Porsche in a similar manner and it is incredibly useful to get all the capabilities.

Regarding power supply, does anyone know if something like this would work?

This might help.
