Hi everyone,

Has anyone opted to subscribe to the $80 per year in - dash navigation system?

It seems to me, with Google maps , Waze, and Apple Maps…. This really isn’t needed…

Why charge for it? When no one else is?

There is no expiration for the built-in Navigation. There IS expiration for the Connected Navigation. If you don't subscribe, no updates, including of new charging stations. But... with the new Android Auto Google Maps enhancements, it's likely not necessary for many.

I should be more frugal than I am. I have no problem admitting that.

But in my old age, I finally can purchase dolled up trim vehicles with all the features. And these vehicles no longer cost $25k or even $35k, but rather $60-80k.

So when it comes time to renew for a feature that's $100 for a year, or $10 per month, I'm finally free to just keep all the goodies that are available available for use. Just in case.

I love all the "connected services" stuff in the truck and Mach-E. I feel pampered and like I'm living the good life finally! ?

Note that Ford actively remove updated maps and precondition feature if you have no subscription. I had to reset PAAK, and while I did that the package went to “awaiting activation” in FordPass. During this time the updated maps were removed and car refused to precondition before a fast charger as you could not navigate to a charger at all from the NAV.

I will likely subscribe. The live traffic data and geo-points like new charging locations is worth paying for.

Google Maps, Apple Maps and others are not "free" and we should stop pretending as if they are.

Most manufacturers now charge for "connected" navigation.

I second that emotion!! And we can’t take it (our hard earned $$ that we’re enjoying in retirement) with us anyway ?!

I did not renew, mainly because I didn't use the system at all.

I use Apple Maps with EV integration and charging stops. I don't get battery precondition, but otherwise been happy with the integration. My phone can look at my calendar locally and suggest locations for maps, all on-device. Something Ford does not offer as they do not offer a phone product.

With you on Google Maps
, but Apple Maps' income stream works differently. The operation of maps happens locally and besides opt-in anonymous analytics, Apple doesn't get or sell the kind of detailed personal information your thinking. Apple makes money on hardware, Google on ads. Though I will grant that once you interact with a third-party (Yelp, Grubhub, etc) inside Apple Maps, it's on that third-party for what happens with that interaction.

Ford's system on the other hand doesn't have that scrutiny of privacy and may indeed (with or the intention) allow data brokers to use that data.

If you have iOS (iphone) and need preconditioning for your battery prior to DC fast charging, then pay the subscription.

If you use Android auto, then no need to pay for it, just use googlemaps.
You will get all updated charging locations AND preconditioning for your battery.

No. Several people have mentioned that Ford navigation is not good. Several times, Ford navigation told me to drive across 6-8 lane highways. I would have to drive through ditches and fences to get to another side.

You can navigate to a charger thru the public charging app. Select the charger and click navigate to and it goes thru the ford nav. I don’t dcfc enough o know if this works or not but read that is the work around.

I dunno what the hell it even does...I figured maybe it was needed for the integration with the charge assist so I just paid for it with fordpass points. It's less than 7 bucks a month...not gunna cheap out on that.
