2014 Chevy Volt. Future Mach-E Rally owner?
  • Speedometer in the middle or at least closer to the middle.
  • Have phones assigned to profiles. I don't want my wife's phone to connect to the car from the house when my profile is active.
  • Trunk close button lower so short people can push it.
  • Remote start and frunk open on the fob.
  • Dedicated button in the cabin for the trunk.
  • 110 outlet(s)
  • V2V and V2L
  • Small wheel options for higher trim cars
  • Real door handles
  • Ability to globally limit charge level. (setting EVERY location is a chore)
  • Ability to set charge limit for DC charging
  • More data available on the screens. ICE generally have more data.
  • Precondition button.
  • Landscape center screen so you don't have to glance so far from road
  • Less beauty plastic under the hood or more access ports
  • A charge port on the front and the rear
  • Charge port door that doesn't stick so far out.
Overall great points!
Never thought about the center screen, as I could see looking up/down being annoying/unsafe.
It would be great to have better customization on the charging limits as I wouldn't necessarily always need a fast charge.
Less plastic and better utilization of the frunk (other than loading lot's of chicken legs/wings).
Lastly, hopefully Ford designs a better charge door location/overall design (with J3400/NACS of course) as we don't want to upset Tesla owners as we start utilizing those Superchargers.

At least a 1000 AC watt outlet for using small appliances

Global charging limit

A simpler screen for HVAC, there is plenty of room for large touchscreen bars for temperature and fan speed, and Big buttons for defrost, which vents to use, etc.

Ford communicating better

I'm OK with $50 a month Bluecruise but it should include navigation, a little music, and include about everything - even satellite texting access for emergencies.

My assumption is that Ford will its software and OTA mature by the end of next year.
Curious to see how Bluecruise (I'd pay a 1 time fee for Bluecruise the life of the vehicle) evolves by the 2nd generation and how Ford designs the interior.
I thought using the volume dial as a climate control was a unique design and reminds me of a Nest thermostat. I'd still like that similar design language moving forward.

Actually very much prefer the current portrait orientation, but only because of the tactile reference point I get with that big ole multifunction knob and the way the bottom edge of the screen juts out just a bit. Makes it very easy for me to just align my hand to the knob and the bottom screen edge, tap the temperature or fan icon, and twist the knob, without really taking my eyes off the road. It’s the closest touchscreen-based infotainment system I’ve tried that almost perfectly mirrors the general layout of a traditional old school button-based radio and climate control system, at least as far as tactile orientation of the hand goes.

now if were a portrait system with an all-touch design and no tactile reference points (like the infotainment system in my previous ICE vehicle), then I would have a different opinion. Any infotainment system without some tactile point of reference, portrait (as in my last car) or landscape (as in Teslas and others) are the worst.

No question though that beyond the basic temperature and fan speed control (both of which need nothing more than a single tap and a twist) could really use some improvements. The controls that really cause me to take my eyes off the road are heat and air circulation. Those buttons are small, and things like that should never be buried in a menu to begin with. It is not fun getting coal rolled by the truck in front of you right after turning the heat on because the system defaults to venting air from the outside in.

Hear’s a suggestion: that AC button that’s always at the bottom of the screen, make that a dynamic button with a fly out menu. Tapping the button turns the volume knob into a three-step dial, similar to the heated seats option. Clockwise: Off, AC, and heat.
Tapping the button can also switch between the 3 modes, just like the heated seats button.

and put a temporary visual indicator at the very top of the screen so you don’t have to look down to see what speed, temperature or other control you are adjusting with the knob.

air venting could be implemented into the fan speed controls button as a fly out option.

as for the airflow options (floors, face and windshield), I really like how big and easy it is to see and tap those buttons when driving, but they don’t have to completely obscure CarPlay like they currently do. You really only need the top third of the display for those controls. That way, dismissing the screen is as easy as tapping whatever is beneath it, as opposed to hunting for the close buttons on the far right corners of the screen.

Fix these things and I’m happy. I don’t need a large widescreen in landscape mode, where some controls are literally a foot away from the steering wheel, causing me to actually take my eyes off the road to see what I’m trying to tap on in the far ends of the screen (as opposed to simply feeling out the bottom edges and knob to orient my hand in our current portrait design).

Good point on landscape being further to reach. I feel like both portrait and landscape could be better with some thoughtful UI design. Or just more actual buttons.

7 months in, neither my wife or me likes the climate control system . By the time you’ve adjusted the temp, fan, airflow etc you’ve had your eyes off the road TOO long.
I leave it in Auto and adjust temp up/down to get desired airflow (speed and which vents). Hitting the Auto level button allows for enough granularity.

Unsure if there is a thread out there in regards to improvements that current/future Mach-E owners would like to see for future Mach-E model years (specifically for the 2nd generation, anticipated in 2027).
It seems that Ford also checks out forums as a place for feedback on improvements they make on each Mach-E iteration, so this is the place for that discussion.
As we all know by now, the 2025 MY will bring improvements such as heat pump, ventilated seats, sport appearance package, BlueCruise 1.5, etc.
I myself am waiting to get a Mach-E Rally in the future.

Improvements/additions/wishlist I'd like to see on future Mach-E's are listed below (definitely would like to see these improvements by the 2nd generation on a Rally trim):
  1. Adjustable suspension for dirt or track use.
  2. Allow front & rear torque distribution adjustments.
  3. Heads up display or HUD.
  4. Heated steering wheel.
  5. Improved efficiency and range (maybe solid state batteries by 2027?).
  6. Improved motors (no overheating on demanding rides and more power).
  7. 800V or higher vehicle architecture.
  8. J3400/NACS plug (thought this would've made it by MY 2025).
  9. Improved BlueCruise and software (this was a given).
BONUS wish list (for Rally trim, since this is how I would spec my Mach-E):
  1. Unique colors/liveries for Rally trim (I like the racing stripes).
  2. Unique interior (such as sporty steering wheel, sporty seats, etc).
  3. Addition of a track mode & improved rally mode.
  4. Simulation shift mode and legacy Ford performance vehicle sounds to make driving more engaging for us enthusiasts?
I know this is a large ask as a consumer, but I'd like to see the Mach-E Rally be competitive to the Ioniq 5 N (or TRX, if there ends up being a performance version of it), as these vehicles provide the EV/car enthusiast the best of all worlds.
As a side note, some of these improvements could also be made on other trim levels, as I know others would like to see improvements as well on the Mach-E overall.
I maybe missing some other improvements we all would like to see, but hopefully this thread will make the already great Mach-E even better with each passing year.
What would improvements would y'all like to see on future Mach-E's?
Hi,

Good list
My comments :
-as stated by others, my 2024 Standard range already has Heated Steering Wheel.
-For 60k CAN. (43K USD for my southern neighbours) can we agree that to have a powered lift-gate is basic or essential ?

Range extender (i.e. gas generator).
Landscape oriented info screen. Or, adjustable portrait screen like in Explorer EV.

Pretty cool screen that Explorer EV has, but no multifunction knob is a dealbreaker for me. Lack of a tactile reference point for commonly used buttons on a touchscreen is not a good thing.

Thanks for the feedback and agreed that for the price, all MME trims should have a powered lift-gate as standard these days to be competitive with other manufactures (especially being an SUV).

In all posts that request future features I always ask for "trip mode", where all vehicles with an extended range battery get the same farthest range possible. However, I have learned that it is impossible to sequester the front motor from the rest of the system, so it is impossible to get the all wheel drive models to have the same range as the rear wheel only models. Perhaps the solution would be a limited automatic transmission that helped with initial acceleration in a low gear, better mileage in a higher gear, and even better mileage in a higher gear that cuts out the front motor. But that is expensive.

I'm sure Ford (or other manufactures have already solved this) could have this all be solved with software adjustments.
Nonetheless, I agree that it would be nice to go just FWD or RWD on trip/eco mode for more range.
Hopefully the engineers already thought of this and maybe with AWD trims, just having 2 driving wheels might be inefficient with carrying the non-driving motors' dead weight
?‍♂?

Ford needs to make the MachE ride better. The ride is too choppy and bouncy! It is the only thing I dont like about the car. I bought it without a test ride back when you had to order on 6 months in advance.
