Hi all! So I am paying for abrp premium and have it hooked into my car via an OBS plug.

I have a trip planned from Minneapolis to Chicago and abrp claims only an hour worth of charging and a 7 hour trip total. Using superchargers

I got curious and plugged into the built in nav and it came in at 9.5 hours total.

Should I trust abrp? Traveling with my wife and kid and still have a gas SUV to fall back on.

I’m not familiar with premium. Do you still input parameters such as watts/mile, speed, etc.?

While I don’t use ABRP, I’ve done that route a couple of times. Was able to make it in one day, but it was a very long day for me. If you have two drivers it would be much easier.

I tend to micromanage my trips and route to the next charger that I’ve preselected. However, one of the trips, the weather got bad (wind/rain). I have Apple Maps integration and my remaining battery estimate was shrinking fast. I ended up pushing the chargepoint chicklet and was able to get to a 50 kw charger at a college. Saved the day. One other thing, hopefully you have the Tesla adapter, the EA in Tomah, WI was slow and had lines almost every time I was there.

I would plan on at least two charge stops, depending on the weather. Assuming that ABRP would add any extra stops as needed.

Enjoy your trip!

With my ER premium that’s a 420 miles trip…so even if I subtracted 30% from the 300 mile range you’d still be looking at going 200 miles just from leaving home at 100%

1 hour worth of charging is 2 charge stops….in summer I easily did 200 miles between stops. So 2 stops for a 400 mile trip deff should be fine.

Unless you drive 90+ into a headwind and it’s -50 or something.

My ABRP says two stops, the Superchargers in Tomah and Janesville (I would probably charge to 80% at each). Total time with charging about 6.5 hours. This assumes you're starting with 100%. If it's particularly cold or windy, you might need three stops.

If you have live data turned on, generally ABRP is pretty accurate and can be trusted (I trust it). Just make sure it continues to update (may not if running in the background). The only time it's wrong is if it's gets really windy, the temp drops fast, or it starts raining or snowing.

The Ford nav is pretty conservative and adds more stops than necessary. So I'm not surprised it's adding an extra 3 hours to the trip.

The combination of ABRP and Apple Maps is terrific. If you have the paid subscription and the obd2 scanner you will get real time results. So it should be accurate. I finished a round trip from Milwaukee to Ft Worth a week ago and am leaving Saturday for Salt Lake. I have a First Edition 21. What I find works well is to plan it out and print it out and let my wife co pilot. And if we need other stops/breaks etc she logs the changes and we keep moving. Safe travels this should be an easy trip with the proper planning.

Been using ABRP for 3 years and never seen the need for the paid version. It plans accurate stops. Research them in PlugShare before and during trip.

I've used the paid version, and it's pretty good, but as mentioned - keep it running. I also only pay for a month at a time when I am going to go on an extended road trip or two and then cancel when I'm done.

Its value really comes through for me when I want to manually change my target SOC for arrival based on what I'm observing or if plans slightly change along the way and my route differs or changing starting SOC if I charge more than what it recommends to give me a bit of flexibility.

ABRP + Plugshare + FordPass (since I'm a '21 J1 without Google Integration) are what I use before and during any extended trips.
