I know a lot of people don't like this feature, but out here in the middle of nowhere it actually works quite good going through all the small towns and such. Last night in the 4 degree cold kept getting a message that the sign recognition part of the adaptive cruise was not working. Most times it would show the speed as you pass a sign, sometimes it didn't show any speed limit just dashes. Where is the camera for this located? I suspect it is reading GPS now instead of the signs. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

It is definitely camera based. I love the concept of this but the implementation is lacking and makes me wonder where they did testing. Here we can have 3 or 4 speed zone signs in the same visible space. Off ramps,, frontage roads, HOV lane and then the highway.

When testing it myself I am on a road that is marked 75… it sees it and it works, but then it sees a sign on the frontage road marked at 45 and immediately starts ramping down fast. Practically slamming on the brakes.

so it’s off now.

It's a bit different in this area, I can see where that could be the case in metro areas. Biggest issue we've had is sometimes it reads county road signs and now and then there must be some GPS embedded speed limits that it picks up once in a while

Camera is up by the mirror. Also uses a database.

I use it here as I live in rural Hawaii. Check the camera for dirt and the like. It will occasionally miss a sign though for a variety of reasons or misread a sign and upon occasion there’s a mistake in the database that needs to be corrected by a governmental agency.

It's very much camera based.

The offramp for me to get home had a speed sign for 30 MPH. However, someone put a black sticker between the upper and middle serif (?) of the 3. The car would recognize that as 80 MPH on the off ramp! Though with the latest software on my car via FDRS, they seemed to have fixed that issue.

The car still has a huge issue with truck only speed limits. I'll be in a 70 zone with a 70 sign, which is then followed by a trucks only 55 sign a few hundred feet after. This will trick the car to thinking it's a 55 zone for everyone and start throttling down.

I had 2 very bad, almost inexplicable, instances where Blue Cruise thought the speed limit was 85, and actually changed my set speed to 85! This happened once on Rt 15 and one night driving home on Rt 8 it happened 4 times!! When I got home I turned the speed sign recognition off and it hasn't happened again. But I have not driven the same highways again, either.
I say it is almost inexplicable because first, there were no 85 mph speed limit signs. But much more surprising is that the car set the speed to 85 mph! That was crazy! The reason it was so noticeable is because the car accelerated very quickly those 5 times (it had been set to 70, the going rate of most of the traffic). It was almost like I had floored the car! Also, in my previous experience with Blue Cruise it shuts itself off over 82 mph.
I haven't seen this speeding up mentioned before. Is it a known bug?

Thank you for all the responses, I will check the camera. The only issues I've had to this point is after a new windshield and realignment it picks up a 20mph for a short ways and a 70mph until it sees a 60 mph sign. This is on the road we use the most. It didn't do it till the new windshield and it only does it maybe 30% of the time. There are no county road signs around with those #'s. Kind of strange, but no big deal.

General comment in case ford reads the post. The speed sign recognition worked flawlessly on my F150 2021. After about 30k miles in the truck traded for the ME. driving the same routes in my ME 2023 is night and day. Had to turn it off. Wife’s 2023 Escape works great.

I experience this too. In anything more than light traffic I stopped using BlueCruise. The car dangerously decelerates when picking up the wrong sign for the speed limit

There’s a likely cause. Cameras need to be recalibrated after the windows are replaced.
We did have it recalibrated and that's when changes happened. From new the BC or lane assist would not read one lane on a road near us, after the calibration it works perfectly, but now it picks up what I mentioned which it never did from new. Figure that one out.

It’s not your camera, it’s the programming. I’ve been complaining about this for four months, my favorite is in a 45 zone it reads a mile marker and jumps to 60 and the next 70. Also the predictive turn speed is useless as it will knock of 10mph on every turn and in PA we have more turns than straight roads, we rarely slow for a turn on a 55mph road.

You should try your BC with the speed limit sign recognition turned off.
