My 2021 Mach-E GT PE started throwing a "Powertrain Malfunction/Reduced Power - Take in for service soon" message. I took it in to my local dealer a week ago. They thought that it would be a software fix, but whatever they tried did not resolve the issue. They've opened a ticket with @Ford Motor Company , but don't expect to hear back until next week. I'm told that the dealership tech thinks the problem is with the oil pump for the rear drive motor, but they don't seem very sure about it.

Has anybody else had this error recently, and if so, what was the resolution?

You probably have the infamous HVBJB failure. Did they tell you the DTCs they found?

They did not give me the DTCs. I'm being kept at arm's length from the tech by the service advisor. If I could do it over, I'd have hooked up FDRS and seen what it indicated before taking it to the dealer, but I didn't want to pay the $50.00 license fee.

If your dealer opened a tech line ticket on your car, they should be able to figure it out with Ford's assistance. The fact that they had to open the case in the first place tells me it is most likely not the HVBJB, as that would through a code that would bring up the service bulletin to replace the HVBJB.

Keep in mind in mind there are a lot of things that can cause the SVS light to come on other than a failing HVBJB.

Horsie, if you post a request with your VIN specifically on the FDRS volunteers thread, someone can probably help tell you what DTC codes your car threw, and whether your dealer is as clueless as several of us suspect they are.

Send your VIN and I’ll see what’s going on.

He has P0C2A in the SOBDMC- Electric/Auxiliary Transmission Fluid Pump 'A' Motor Stalled.

This likely means they will have to drop the rear subframe/motor, open up the motor, and replace the oil pump inside. Rare, but has happened on a few cars. If the internal damage from running without an oil pump is too great, the whole drive unit may need to be replaced.

No HVBJB codes.

That’s the same thing that happened to mine, except it was the front drive unit AND I never got the alerts on the IPC. The DTC existed but never alerted me. I only found out my pump failed because the tech told me about it after updating the car with the faux fix HVBJB update in July. That DTC turned into a 10 week nightmare with my dealer. By the time they took the front drive unit out to replace the pump, they saw metal flakes in it. ASK your tech to pull fluid from both sides of the drive unit. It’ll save time for everyone involved!!! I don’t know if that is possible without pulling the drive unit out of the car; they should pull it out and check for motor failure before ordering the motor. My tech only pulled fluid from one side and it was clean. He ordered the pump, waited for it to arrive, THEN pulled the drive unit out and then when he went to replace the pump, he opened the other side of the unit where the pump exists and found the dirty fluid with shavings in it. That delayed my repair by another week since they had to order a front drive unit.

My front drive unit has 7000 miles less on it than my back drive unit does now. And I’ve gone through the HVBJB failure too. Here’s hoping that stupid thing doesn’t die again on me! Car was down for four months. Got it back after the drive unit was fixed, drove four days and then the HVBJB fried, went back to the dealer and took a month to get it back. Essentially in August 8 and finally got it back November 17.

Thanks for the info. I'm trying to figure out how to share this advice with the tech at the dealership. I may have to go into the shop since the service advisor is keeping me at arm's length.

my 2022 Mustang Mach-E premium was purchased on October 2022, on January 16th, got AWD fault service required msg. then it stalled at the traffic light and Ford roadside towed it to the closest ford dealer, now it has been sitting there since then, they started diagnostics but it has been going on for 3-4 days but haven't given me any details, they do not have loaner and I can't rent a car since Ford warranty requires full diagnostics before commit to any rental.

I started looking online for the resources and came to this forum and seems like my car may have this issue about HVBJB failure, since this is known I hope that dealership's service tech. should know about this.

question is, since dealership and Ford customer relations line are not helping in this situation for either fixing my car or have rental or loaner, what would be the solution? or am I on the mercy of that ford dealership?

Hey, Dipen! I can look into this on my end. Can you send us a DM with your VIN and Ford dealer info?

My 2022 Mach E GT threw the code and the dealer said the oil pump is the issue.

Hopefully, this does not happen again once my car is out of warranty since I have 62K miles.

Aside from this and the HVJB replacement, the car has been very good.
