Preconditioning HVB while driving if your on-board nav has expired?

I am about to lose my subscription to Ford's on-board navigation. I don't usually use their nav system. I only use it on the road to precondition the HVB when I'm approaching a charging station. I assume there is no way to precondition if I don't have Ford's nav system?? You can't set a departure time while driving.
Isn't this something Ford should remedy? I know there is a list of things they could easily remedy. In this case, it seems like Ford is black-mailing me to buy this little used feature. I don't take my car on long trips in cold weather because of the range loss so maybe this is not that big an issue for me. I will have to be careful when I take the car on a long trip in hot weather.

Android auto allows precondition and CarPlay could…Apple just hasn’t done it.

Not really a Ford being evil to make money when all of the major mapping services equally have the ability to precondition….

Ford Nav will still work, you simply won’t get updates. As long as you’re navigating to an already known DCFC station in the expired database it should precondition if all the other parameters are met.

In the meantime, as @Sikkun pointed out, it’s not Ford that’s stopping Apple from doing DCFC preconditioning — it’s Apple. Apple and Google were both given the ability to provide turn by turn directions on the ipc and the ability to trigger DCFC preconditioning at the same time. We’ve all seen how that has played out.

And if you’re interested in to why Apple is reluctant to provide this feature, what I’ve been told is that they have privacy concerns about sharing your phone’s location with (wait for it ) … (wait for it) … the car you’re driving.

As I recall it’s just the cropping for the forum picture is all. She was actually informing me that it was:

1. Dinner Time or
2. Lunch Time or
3. Snack Time or
4. Second Breakfast or
5. Second Lunch or
6. Second Dinner or
7. Second snack or
8. All of the above.

I always use Android auto for navigation, but have been switching back to Ford navigation at around 20 miles out from the charger, to precondition. I didn't realize Android auto would precondition. If the next charger is the destination, using Android auto navigation, does it precondition the battery? Or is there something else I need to do?

You need Power Up 10.1 I believe. When navigating with Google Maps, do you see the predicted battery level in the data box in the lower left?

Just a thought - if Android Auto and Carplay both have the ability to turn on Preconditioning, why can't they make a simple app to turn it on manually?
