Welcome.

I've been lurking for a while without posting. Thought I'd add my 2 cents (or more).

I have a 2013 Fusion Energi. Bought it as soon as one become available with most of the options I wanted. I decided that a Tesla was out of my price range so I'd get a PHEV. At that time, it was the best option for me and I've never regretted my purchase. I've got 78K total miles on it with 55K electric miles. Although I've made a couple of long trips in it, I haven't done as many as I first envisioned. I mostly drive it on lots of short trips. 98% of my charging is at home. I had Solar City (now Tesla) install my first PV installation in 2009 and updated it in 2013 so that I could minimize my carbon footprint with my FFE. The update gave me my first bad experience with Tesla. It took them 3 months from the time they started to finalize the added installation. They tried to do all the planning remotely and screwed it up. Badly. Then blamed it on the city. It wasn't the city.

I thought when the Model Y was announced that it would be the right car for me. As others have mentioned, I have very little tolerance for a company that seems more focused on profit over customers and employees. Although I live very close to the Fremont plant, I don't trust Tesla to change to a customer service oriented company. If you've ever watched Rich Rebuilds on YouTube, you'd understand part of the reason that I believe Elon doesn't care about customers. He oversells his product (where's the long promised FSD? and what exactly caused so many people to think that "autopilot" would mean they could ignore their responsibility of driving? or the Model 3 would allow owners to use their cars to make them money when they weren't using it by renting it as a robotaxi within 3 years). Parts for Teslas are ridiculously expensive and the idea that you can't service or modify your own car is nuts. Basically, Tesla lays claim to the cars even after your purchase. But...Teslas are really well engineered vehicles. They are impressive vehicles.

Bottom line is I was looking for another option and found it in the ME. If, however, I find that it's not the vehicle I thought it would be, I'll get my refunded down payment and buy a Model Y.
I started my EV journey with a 2012 Chevy Volt as I too couldn't justify a Model S at that time.

I really enjoyed the 1st Gen Volt, it was reliable and I usually got 47 miles out of it before the engine kicked in (this one was rated at 35 miles electric).

PHEVs will be a good choice for some for sometime to come. Sorry you had to deal with the old Solar City, they were a hot mess back then. From what I hear from friends, Tesla is getting better with their Solar business but still needs to improve.

Hi all!

Glad to join the forum today.

And yes, I own both a 2018 LR RWD Model 3 and a 2020 LR AWD Model Y.

So why join this forum? Simple, I'm an EV enthusiast FIRST, a Tesla owner SECOND.

I hope Ford and this community of current and future Mach-E owners all the best and maybe some suggestions from over 7 years experience driving a number of EVs and PHEVs, including the 2012 Chevy Volt, 2015 Nissan Leaf, and of course my two Teslas.

We'll need all the existing manufacturers to succeed in order to fulfill Tesla's "Massive Transformative Purpose": Accelerate the transition to sustainable transportation

Looking forward to supporting other EV drivers and also answering any Tesla questions.
Welcome! Dang you've got quite the spread! I'm a budding EV enthusiast, prior "Never buy new" type of person. I love that we have such a variety of EV'ers lovers hanging out here!

It's funny -- I think a lot of us are first-time "new car" buyers for the Mustang Mach-E. I never thought I'd be in that boat too, but here I am.

That is SO interesting! What made you go new for this?

I am doing it probably for a lot of the same reasons as many others on here -- We were in the market for an EV, primarily, but weren't totally enthralled by the options available from Tesla. This is basically the next best alternative. And it'll have some things that Teslas don't, such as Android Auto. That's actually a huge plus for me.

It also helps that I'm a Mustang fan and have owned one for 11 years. :)

Welcome! I am happy for you that you like your Teslas and feel proud of them.

But I just can't see myself sparing even a dollar for Tesla.
It's moinly the CEO. He has defrauded so many people with his false promises of full self driving, taking thousands of dollars from them in the false hope of delivering it "soon". This has gone on for 5 years with no one bringing him in for his crimes. It is not just a money matter either. People have been killed and I haven't heard a single apology from Elon Musk on twitter. He tweets so many childish meaningless stuff but nothing that shows respect to his victims.

Not to mention, how Tesla deprives customers of basic warranty repairs and underpays its employees while Elon Musk enriches himself with billions in bonuses. So please forgive me if I don't share a shred of your enthusiasm for Tesla. I will rather bike and take the public transit before I am forced to get a Tesla. LOL.

But I have a genuine question for you. What's the advantage of watching youtube TV on your dash vs. on an Ipad that I can take anywhere? I mean, I could be sitting in a cafe watching youtube TV (if I did) while the car charges. So do you see this as an advantage? I ask because I see many Tesla owners feeling proud of such things like playing games on the dash as if it is a much-coveted item.

Welcome, fellow midwesterner!

I believe that without Tesla's risk-taking and Musk's bravado, we wouldn't be here (anxiously awaiting delivery of an EV from a legacy automobile manufacturer). I've always been a techie (some say "nerd") and a car-guy, and I'm also very enthusiastic about the future of EV transportation.
This is highly debatable. Nissan Leaf was selling in much larger volume in the US since 2011-2012. That was the first BEV I was considering buying too 8 years ago. I'd say, arm twisting and incentives by European and Chinese governments have done a lot more than tesla in this matter.

Interesting to read everyone's stories. I'm interested if anybody shares mine. I was moments away from buying a Kia Telluride because I wanted the third row. The navigation screen was so dinky and didn't seem tech enough, plus something like 18 mpg. So I saw tesla was coming out with the Y with a third row, awesome. Then I started reading up on tesla and realized that was NOT what I wanted, haha. Mach-E/ford advertising that big ole screen got me, and I'm not even getting that third row. Gotta compromise somewhere. But now having seen the model Y pictures of the third row, yikes. That row is practically unusable anyways. Can't wait to get my SPACE WHITE mach-e! Where are my space white brothas and sistas out there?!?!

Also, wasn't Henry Ford a total d-bag? I have no love for Elon either, but, right or wrong, capitalism loves a d-bag.

Government incentives play a huge role, for sure.

It just seemed to me that before Tesla, the general public never took EVs seriously - they were looked at as just another hippie fad similar to how most people viewed the Prius when it was first introduced. The original Tesla (an electrified Lotus Elise) was also mostly a joke.

Once Tesla was able to scale to over 100,000 annually with an EV with decent range and a charging network, people looked and finally thought it was real.

I agree, it's very debatable, but an interesting debate, for sure. And highly subjective!

I'm going to have to disagree. Tesla showed that BEV's can have great performance and be fun to drive, making them desirable. Compliance cars like the leaf and Focus electric simply reinforced the belief that electric cars are limited and "for environmental nuts".

I'm glad you don't mince words about Elon. I think people make the assumption that owning a Tesla means I'm an Elon groupie. I admire the leadership he's brought to transforming the world to sustainable transportation, but he's just as flawed as other visionaries.

To answer your question, bigger screen to watch on plus I use the built-in $10 a month premium connectivity, I can watch as much video as I want for no extra cost.

I was going to mention Henry Ford as a comparison to Elon in my earlier post but didn't want to trade barbs. And comparisons are never fair.

I'm happy you're excited for your new Mach-E. I'll be test driving one for a review on my podcast soon.

I agree. My Model 3 and Y are way more responsive than my 2015 Leaf ever was, plus no issues going where I want when I want at a pace I expect. Compliance cars are just that, in compliance.

I'm hopeful Electrify America improves their charging stations so Mach-E owners can enjoy their cars the way I enjoy mine.
