Ahh you see i have that bad luck factor in my life. Everything I buy seems to develop a fault be it Tv or vacuum cleaner.
Think lucky and you’ll be luck is what mam always used to tell me, seems to work ?

Cheers for that - was that the proper ford protect warranty or was it the usual third party warranty ( 3rd parties one are not great - I speak from experience ) - was it one years or 3 years extra ?
Third Party - and 2 years on top of manufacturers ending :)

Wow, £1200 for a year!! I was lucky; the dealer I bought my 2021 from had bought a Ford Protect 8 Year/100k miles warranty when he registered the demonstrator car. This is on top of the usual 8 year warranty on the battery and powertrain. It cost £1,570 when the car was new so I’m fortunate to be fully covered until September 2029. Hopefully you can find a used MME with the extended warranty on it; it is transferable between owners.
There is no power train warranty on the mache in the UK just the 8 year battery warranty. I thought there was a full powertrain warranty and only recently checked for it as I have a 2021 mache and was surprised to find it doesn't exist.

That Mach E is shadow black, is that metallic? Just thinking about the swirls in the black paint on an ex lease makes me shiver
I have black and can confirm it is unforgiving at supressing any scratches. Rubbish paint quality for the black option in my opinion. I have very visible scratches around the car if you get up close to it. I also had a curtesy mache car from enterprise in black and it was also poor at hiding scratches. I also find if you go down country roads and scuff hedges it potentially can make very hard to get rid of marks.

Interesting about the warranty situation.

Am at 105,000 miles, not a lot went wrong that would’ve cost after the warranties expired.

I think if you check battery SoH and give it a good look over & test drive there’s not much will go wrong ?

Nearly changed mine for another new one or the Capri or Explorer at Christmas but the new so-called equivalent Mach-e don’t have all the bells & whistles mine has and the other two are VWs so use the froot for the electric engine which is no good to me.

Decided to stick with mine.

Had the transmission oil analysed and with only some minor particulate wear in there so will re-sample periodically and decided to stick with it, EV SoH is at 93.5% and only thing which may wear out if ever is a transmission which comprises the motor also and they’re c£5,500 which I’d lose on a new car just rolling it out the showroom.

I never buy additional warranties, ever, for anything, underwrite my own losses and feel I’m quids in so happy to continue with the old nag.

They really are bloody good cars, a joy to drive and IMO are drop-dead gorgeous with nods to the traditional Mustang styling.

Go on, dive in, the water’s fine?
I paid £500 for a 5 year 100k warranty as I didn't trust ford with a new kind of car!

Wow, you’re right! Feeling more blessed to have the extended warranty now.

Thanks Steve, I think we've given up on the black option now given the comments made on here. I quite like the vapor metallic blue which I'd like to see in person and the grey could also be an option.

We went to a local Ford dealer and they had a 2021 black and 2022 red, both had under 25,000 miles. They were reasonably priced but the paintwork was in bad condition on both with multiple scratches and small light scuffs. I could see what you mean about the black, even the dried rain drops were highly visible. Staff were busy so I didn't bother waiting around to ask about the warranty options.

I've found that a pure white or a silver car successfully hides any swirls or light marks. Having said that my Space White (sort of light grey metallic) Mach E seems to be ok although it was treated to a new car detail with an expensive ceramic coating and pampering by me afterwards. Before delivery I asked the dealer not to wash it and do the bare minimum of preparation. (Which they were glad to do as less effort on their part).

Obviously with a used car you inherit the sins of previous owners regarding aftercare. Please do not use an automatic car wash (Swirl-O-Matic) as the nylon brushes used will scratch the paint. Also, be careful of very cheap hand car washers (£5.00) or even less as I can't see them washing their cloths properly and cleaning the sponge when it's been dropped on the floor together with very powerful truckwash spray which strips any polish, coatings or oils out of the paint. They are cheap for a reason.

I can even see swirls on my glass roof and it was like that when I took delivery! Not sure if that's normal or just because it spent so long (6 to 7 months) from production to reaching me.

@Coyney the conventional wisdom of what age vehicle to buy used and how much to hold it for doesn’t translate perfectly to the EV world. The level of advancement that these vehicles go through is truly amazing. I noticed that my 24 works so much better than my 22, although I had no complaints about the latter (at least at the time). The software version differences between modules make things a bit wonky and slower than newer vehicles. Ford is still trying to figure out how to do software differently and they are years behind the new kids on the block. This is why VW invested $5.8B just to get the software stack for their new platforms.

Just my two cents as someone who is not very enthused about taking depreciation hits on cars. But we do what we must.

Do you think you will go for it and is it AWD or RWD ?

Thanks for this, I'm getting the impression that the newer I can buy, potentially the better from a software perspective. I've been doing a bit of reading on some of the software niggles so am starting to understand this a little more. I'm buying a car outright and can't afford to buy new, so am attracted to something that has already depreciated so need to find this balance. I must admit the more I look the potential cost increases! I'm now looking at some of the 2023 GT's! I found this at the weekend: 2023 GT which I like more than the premium models! I'll be buying in March so am keeping an eye on costs.

Don’t forget to factor in insurance. I’m not sure what the difference is between the premium and GT models.
