I also just now read the thread on the hack to pre-condition with the app by setting the cabin temp t lo. I still have this question. If you turn on climate in the app and the cabin reaches the set value in a few minutes (car in garage, temp in mid 30's to low 40's), then will battery conditioning begin?
No, not with HVAC on.

Hi Mustang Mach-E owners,

We’re excited to announce that launching with the 2025 Mustang Mach-E is an expanded Charge Settings app on the touchscreen and other improvements to allow you to take better control of your vehicle’s charging, including many improvements based on suggestions from our customers and owners (including many within this group!) – thank you.

01 - Charge Settings Not Plugged In.jpg

Here’s how it works:

Live Charging

With the addition of Live Charging, you will be able to view your Mustang Mach-E’s charging speed in real time within the Charge Settings app.

When you’re charging on a Level 1 or Level 2 AC charger, you’ll see both your charge rate in Amps as well as kW:

And when you’re DC Fast Charging, you’ll see your charge rate displayed in kW:
03 - Live Charging DC Crop.jpg

Global Target Charge

With the updated Charge Settings app, your Target Charge limit can be set with one simple slider, and the target will apply everywhere – no need to save a location first. To change it, just drag and release the slider. This target charge level will apply to all Level 1 and Level 2 AC charging as well as DC Fast Charging.

04 - Slider Detail Crop.jpg

There are two different versions of the slider, depending on what type of battery you have.

If you have an Extended Range battery, you will see a “Daily” portion of the slider from 50% to 90% and a “Trip” section between 90% and 100%. Ford recommends charging your battery to a limit within the Daily range for day-to-day driving and frequent charging, and using the Trip range when you need extra range.

If you have a Standard Range battery, you will see a recommendation to charge to 100% on a day-to-day basis. When the charge limit is selected below 100%, a reminder will display to charge to 100% at least once per month to maintain battery health.

Preferred Charge Times allow you to save charging locations you’ve previously visited and schedule your charging at those locations individually.

AC Charge Rate Control

With the addition of charge rate control for AC charging, you can adjust your vehicle’s maximum charging speed on a Level 1 or Level 2 charger.

This feature is designed to help make life easier if you wish to slow your charging down, for example to time the completion of charging to align with when you will return to your vehicle, or if you’ve experienced circuit breaker trips at a certain charger.

By default, this value will be set at maximum AC charge rate for your vehicle. To reduce this rate, tap the Advanced option from the Charge Settings screen, and an AC Charge Rate slider will appear.

Charge Port Locking

To improve Fast Charging Adapter security and reduce the chance of your vehicle being unexpectedly unplugged when fast charging, your vehicle’s charge port will no longer automatically unlock when fast charging is completed.

To unlock the charge port, you will use the unlock button in the middle of the Charge Status Indicator light located next to charge port:

06 - Charge Status Indicator.jpg

When pressing this button with your vehicle’s key (or your phone with Phone as a Key (if equipped)) near the charge port or with vehicle doors unlocked, charging will stop and the charge port will unlock.

If the unlock button is pressed without the vehicle’s key present, the charge port will remain locked and charging will continue. If a press of the charge port unlock button does not unlock the charge port, ensure a key is positioned near the charge port, or press the door unlock button inside the vehicle.

Charge port locking applies to DC Fast Charging only. Level 1 and Level 2 AC charging can be unplugged without pressing the unlock button.

Thank you for your feedback which we used to develop these features.

Robert and Brian
Hi Robert and Brian,

can you let us know if these features will go to previous model years of the Mach E?

Thanks in advance!

Stephanie

The charger lock thing had me flummoxed a couple days ago. For only the 2nd time in the 13 months I've had my MME, I had to stop on the road to charge up sufficiently to get home. It was about 10:30pm and I was still about 50 miles from home with about 40 miles of range. I had to go to 3 charging stations before I found one with available chargers, but they were Tesla units so it went really fast. Fortunately I had the adapter in the trunk- which I had never used- and it made it really easy. Until I went to unplug the cord/adapter from the charge port. It wouldn't unlock. So I'm standing there in the cold, it was snowing, I was tired, had to pee, and couldn't for the life of me get this thing disconnected. I got back in the car to search online for a solution but I had already tried everything it suggested. I go back outside and I'm standing there looking at the stupid charge port and finally noticed the "button" inside the charger progress circle. I had tried everything else so I thought, is this actually a button or just a light? I pressed it, the adapter "clicked" and I was able to disconnect it.

I mean I get why it locks due to the adapter, but I was about 10 seconds away from kind of losing it.

I'm not expecting to get this via OTA ... they would have mentioned it otherwise. Begs the question as to why they are even posting this when everyone on the forum has a 2024 or older car.
That is sad and speaks volumes about the fact Ford is not understanding how to do OTA as this is a perfect example of something to add to OTA.

I find it pretty ridiculous that Ford posts something like this, without addressing the elephant in the room (2021 - 2024s), when they know it's going to be immediately asked. It's like an insult to our intelligence.

In my experience all communication from Ford and OTA program has been disappointing at best to sloppy. I have come to not expect much.

It’s for fast charging only because it requires an adapter which someone could swipe from you.
Well if NA moves to Tesla plugs we need it for L2 adapters also.

Is it common for them to drop messages like these and not apply to current or recent models? Do they abandon prior years as soon as new is developed? Really really hope my purchase of a new 24 last week isn’t already obsolete for updates...
Ford caught a **LOT** of heat and angst when they promised to put (some given feature) into (some given model year) by (some particular date), and did so 1.5 years later.

We here in this forum gave them shit, repeatedly. ( Me too ). Because, dude, I'll give you a few months, but YEARS?

Mostly people said DON'T PROMISE SOMETHING YOU CAN'T DELIVER

Now, they simply don't promise. Literally anything. They *might* or *might not* do any improvement at any time.

See how good they were to listen to us?

That being said, @Ford Motor Company , how about at least stating what your position for any given update is for the pre-2025's? Eg, "not gonna happen", "we'll try", "we'll try really hard", "nah for 21 ~ 22 because hardware but everyone else, very likely" or whatever?

It is just weird to post to somewhere with people who ALL OWN MACHEs and tell them about a feature and not give SOME INDICATION of whether we'll ever see it.

It’s feels like the original post was more like a press release. It is intentionally vague about vehicles prior to the 2025 model. Specifically, it seems like a release to talk up the 2025 model bc it the latest and greatest. In that regard, it is weird to post that in a forum where there are tons pre 2025 model year owners.

Why can’t we also lock the port when L1/2 charging? Maybe a setting in the car to enable this feature? I don’t want people to interrupt my charging when I’m not near the car.
In the UK anyway, the charge port is locked and you use the button in the chargeport to unlock the plug and pull it out. It's always been this way, even for 2021 versions. However CCS2 plugs don't have an actual unlock button on them.

The feature I _really_ want … is ad-hoc pre-conditioning of the battery pack.

I don’t have a daily “schedule” where I need to leave at the same predictable time each day. If I have an appointment at 2pm … I might want to pre-condition the car for say … a 1pm departure. But only for that one-time event.

The way the software currently works … is I have to create a scheduled departure for that time and select the days of the week where I want to use that schedule … and then save it. After the car is pre-conditioned, I have to go back into FordPass and delete the schedule (because for me it was really just a one-time event).

I’d like to be able to tell the app “start preconditioning now” (no schedule) -or- set a “have the car ready by 1pm” (no recurring schedule). I want to simplify the ability to pre-condition for non-recurring events.

We’ve had polls here and while this feature request usually isn’t the #1 requested feature … it does poll rather well (I am not the only person who wants this.)
Yes this! I’ve wanted this from day 1. Need to be able to easily set an ad-hoc 1 time target departure with desired charge level. I always have to go into the schedule just to set it up for 1 time and if I want to have a different charge level than normal I have to set a reminder to start charging at an estimated time.

Nice changes!

Terribly sad about you adding amps to L2 charging, and keeping DCFC levels at kw only.. Over and over, knowing amps and volts, requested and delivered, when L3 is critical to knowing what's going on. Still - KW is a good first step. However, what do you do when you are at a 200KW charger and both charger and car say it is 72kw? Is it a pump malfunction? Should I change pumps?

The car has a 400 volt system. so when it's charging the voltage will be slightly over that. 72kw is the max charge speed a Mach-E will accept. At 400 volts that's 180 amps. So your at a good station.
