New, minor CarPlay feature enhancement coming to Mach-E owners in iOS 18.4

Two little things I really like about using CarPlay.

About two blocks before I arrive home, the calendar tile is replaced with my garage door tile allowing me to open the door. Same with leaving the house, the garage door tile is displayed showing me the status of the door (open). Touching the tile closes the door and once closed, the tile goes away and is replaced by the calendar.

I travel a lot and use 4 different airports depending on where I am going. On the day of my travel, Maps will suggest the fastest route to the airpot my flight is at.

I have Chamberlain garage door openers. Their myQ app integrates with Apple Home which is integrated with CarPlay.

Also, no one wants to see the album art, just give the artist name and the track to keep the panel layout small.

Classical music listeners need the composer, work, movement and—optionally—the performer(s). The word artist is ambiguous. We have a huge screen; there is no reason we all can't have exactly what we want! There is room for the second flute player's life story, for Pete's sake.

Oh! Thanks! So do I, but they have been so notoriously closed to any other service that I had just assumed it would never happen. Now I will look. I know they do not support the Siri commands, but perhaps now they do?

Can you show a screenshot of this? I have the same and have never been able to figure out how to get myQ on my CarPlay. I always have to open and close the garage with my car’s homelink button. (1st world problems).

I have had these Chamberlain openers for 6 years now and have been using Siri since then. When I am on the phone or have passengers, I use the garage door tile on CarPlay, otherwise all other times just ask Siri to open or close the doors.

Apple released the first beta of iOS 18.4, which includes a new CarPlay feature for those who own big screens, like the proud owners of a Mach-E.

iOS 18.4 adds a third row of icons. It's a small but nice enhancement if you have a lot of CarPlay-enabled apps.

Cool, next they could try to improve the battery’s SoC on the Apple Map.

I set this up 6 years ago and can't remember exactly what I did but I know I added both openers in the Apple Home app. Once you do that, they automatically pop up on CarPlay. When I first set this up, I created automations that would open the door when I was a few blocks from home and close the door when I would leave. I turned that automation off as I realized I don't always want that to happen.

Yes! I've got the Meross Garage opener, and it's fantastic. I wish Apple would make the door opening and closing icons a little more prominent. Still, it's great to have.

Interesting you say that because I find it to be really good.. I drive back and forth from my home to two different airports regularly. One is 95 miles away and the other 116. I leave with a 100% charge and when I arrive at the airport (or back home), the arrival SOC is always within 1-5% from the predicted SOC.

I don't think Apple will ever support that because it's unsafe. There are HDMI workarounds, though.

Yes, other garage door opener manufacturers also work with Apple Home. What do you mean about making the icons more prominent?
