Plugged in tonight at home (ford station pro) everything looked okay. Heading to bed and I checked in and it said Charger Fault - appears to have never started. Unplugged and plugged back in and it started charging but way slower than I expected. Thoughts? Is this a random quirk that happens or something I should investigate?

** Only had the installed charger for two weeks - two previous charges went just fine.

Then look at light display on charger.

At what Amperage is the EVSE set? I'm going in tomorrow for what I think is a SOBDM replacement (they didn't actually tell me which module they are replacing, but I will ask) as I can no longer charge above 32A - anything higher and it fails. Every time.

Just a thought as it took a while to figure out what was going on with my car when it started happening.

Station says max current is 16A. It is on 60A breaker. After the reboot I can now get 10.3kwh - I’m still making sense of what it all means. What is a usual charge rate at home?

After reboot it failed one more time and I unplugged and plugged back in and it started working.

Are you perhaps on 3-phase @ 16A? Because 10.3 kW would make sense...

I was assuming 1-phase when I read this, and wrote a response first (which I've deleted), but what you posted above only makes sense to me if you are on 3-phase...

@Mach-Lee?

There is no such thing as 3 phase J1772.
10.3KW is about normal max net to the battery.

You should be able to tap on “Edit” and change the 16A setting to 48A.
But there is no way he's getting ~10kW at 16A, that's the part I don't understand.

16A @ 240v is only 3.8kW. OP said he's pulling over 10kW.

@essjay Did an electrician install this for you?

It’s possible that the app setting got changed to 16A inadvertently at some point.

I’m getting ~7KW rate using a dumb 32A EVSE. 10 and change sounds about right for a bigger unit, losses taken into account. ??

While I wait for Ford Customer Service here are some updates. I just plugged in tonight for the first time since the event. Here is what happened.

1. Cycled to 3.4kw and then stopped (I didn’t stand with it to observe the process). Checked on it and I had a yellow fault light on the charger.
2. Unplugged and turned off breaker.
3. Tried again. Station was blue and charged started and powered to 10.4kw added a mile and then yellow fault light popped up and charging stopped. (This took about 3 min)
4. Unplugged, started car, turned off breaker for 15 min, tried again - same thing.

My question - is this a car issue or a pro station issue? I’m on hold with customer service now.

Adding, this was a Ford Promise install so electrician and Qmeric.

What happens if you try to charge it on a different public Level 2 charger?

In my experience, the amber light means deprecation by the EVSE, not the vehicle.
I agree with Lee - try it on a different charger.
