ABRP (free version) feels very dated and clunky to use. I haven’t needed it for live updates but it’s something I wanted to try. What OBD dongle is everyone using?
Fords in car search is pretty terrible, with spotty supercharger listings and no along route feature nor searching in a city you are aiming for by zooming. The public charging app is better but no map. Most reasonable features require a connected subscription, although many have that as part of the purchase.

Googles in car search is better, with along route and destination percent, and a good looking ui, and amenities and has the best nav, but no live tesla and no charging parameters (arrival and destination and network) holds it back. One expects improvement over time. It's free, that is, it stores and monitizes your travel data (eg, feeds into ai) and takes money from advertisers to push up their locations.

Abrp has the best charging data and charging routing, maybe ok nav, poor amenities and ui. It's a smaller subscription than ford. But not free. May not sell your data and i haven't seen serious monetization yet.

Paid may be a good thing, although we're pretty far down the rabbithole of The Corporations Has All Our Datas.

We can use SOME Rivian locations.
Rick, you just mentioned Rivian locations are available. Are the ones at Fremau Center Mall available now?

Can you explain how you got the car live data connected without a dongle? I tried this today and it does not get live data without it. Did u have to activate something in phone settings??
thanks.

I tried ABRP without my Bluetooth LE OBD2 dongle and it works. I always seemed to have trouble getting the dongle to pair with the ABRP program and this is better.

I still noticed the lack of exit information. It said to get off at Exit 41 on I-95 here in MA. As I neared the exit, it added Weston to the information. It did not mention that it is US Route 20 and I noticed it is hit-or-miss on it showing route numbers. I was also going to Waltham and the sign says Weston Waltham.

I still like the features of Google Maps better. I like the map display, more complete exit information, and it does battery preconditioning when heading for a charger. I find the SOC prediction on Google Maps to be very good. I plan on dropping my ABRP Premium subscription.

Make sure you have newest ABRP and Android Auto. Look for the Android Auto logo in the SOC window of ABRP:

There's nothing to "connect". It just happens when AA connects. The picture is from my Lightning with small screen but the MME screen should be similar.

Thanks for this. Will have to look into app updates, definitely don’t see this on the screen

ABRP ver 5.7 started the AA data integration. Mine is currently 5.7.1. Check the permission settings for ABRP and make sure that it has "Car information" permission allowed under "Additional permissions".

My AA ver is "13.8.650814-release"

Android 14

As far as I know, I have the most recent Sync version and the recent gateway module update came OTA a few weeks ago for me (might only be pertinent to my Lightning).

Check all of those and maybe send a VIN check request to the FDRS gurus to see if you have anything that needs to be updated that would make this possible.

I took a trip from Virginia to Florida and installed the premium version trial and it was awesome even without live battery monitoring. The only thing I thought they could improve on was their mapping, it kind of sucked. Outside of that it was the best app I found.

Thanks again for this information, I updated all apps and can now confirm it works for me !
I did test and ABRP also pre-conditions as well headed to a charger!
preparing for a 1,500 mile round trip journey next month and this will really help.

No, it does not. Been waiting for this as well. Had bought cheap Android phone just to use Google Maps & now ABRP.

I just fired it up, and it was there. The battery percentage is in the upper-right corner. Like you, I was already running with a dongle and live data and a subscription to get that.

I didn't need any extra settings. The feature is provided through Android Auto integration.

Make sure you've got battery percentage in Google Maps. If you don't, you're held back by either car software or phone software (android auto). Is that working?

There was a long thread when Google Maps came out with battery percentage, which would have been about November (?) of last year - you might want to check those.

My memory says those threads stated that recent builds (like 23 / 24) shipped with the right in-car software, but the 21/22 had some sort of updates. I'm not sure my experience matched that - there was one particular update my car took, and Google Maps battery percentage showed up right after that, and it didn't "feel" like a coincidence.

Yes, all the nav and point of interest features have me reaching for GM primarily - although I hit the exact case, in GM, of an exit with a terrible description. The screen said "exit 3" the signs didn't have exit numbers. But GM gets it right 99% of the time. Better nav.

The fact that GM doesn't recommend large, empty superchargers, and doesn't have supercharger live info, will keep me in ABRP a bit longer - but primarily when I'm in need of a charge or doing a long trip.

I don't think anyone's tested if ABRP preconditions. I bet it would.

Distance to Go in driver display for ABRP is constantly zero for me. Also, the icon never changes regardless of the destination, so I suspect there is no battery conditioning using ABRP.

I did note the AA symbol showing when I was running ABRP recently on a local drive.
