Sure seems like a crack to me. Maybe it is caused by the embedded wire. Then it would be a defect. I have the cracks. Rarely use the lock feature. Hand wash the car. Don't plan on replacing since it seems to be just cosmetic.
I do understand others wanting to. If cracks happened from using the keypad wouldn't you think that was a defect especially if a lot of people had the problem and they rarely used it?

Now, if it actually was a wire there wouldn't be a crack that you could feel on the outside of the panel, and it wouldn't be able to be replaced, separate from the panel.

There is a wir.e, which is embedded but to see you have to shine a light on it. What the OP posted looks like a crack. I know the theory for some time has been the embedded wire is causing the cracking. Neither of my maches experienced it.

I appreciate all opinions and ideas received. I too believe it to be a crack. I remember what it was like before and now. The area made weak by a wire or something seems completely possible. But whatever it is, it isn’t scratches on just my car, scratched from the car wash! Which I think is most troubled me.

I have heard rumor of the ones that don’t crack and ones that haven’t once they’re replaced. I had a terrible dealer experience during my replacement; mostly inexperience, long duration, and breaking my window. So I had hoped that getting them done at one of the more experienced locations I could get the type I’ve heard of. Yep I enjoy chasing unicorns.

Yes, I use my lock button/sensors. No I don’t press, just touch… up to the 50 times until they work. But not often on any door but mine and they’re all cracked. For me it seemed to be the cold weather that did them in first. A trip to Oregon during a really cold winter week. All were cracked after that. We face 20’s during winter at home, but it’s under cover so it doesn’t usually get frozen over.

PPF is a great suggestion. Don’t know why I never thought about that option. To anyone who has done this, do the lock sensors still work? And what about the codes on the driver door? Do you just go without? I rarely use them because I have my phone, but I like the backup option. It seems like some of the ones have a cutout in the lock/button area, which defeats the purpose. So I’m thinking the ones that do, wouldn’t work?

And I too can admit to not noticing the little locks until I was a week or so into ownership. I remember it seemed weird there wasn’t something like it somewhere. Then I found them.

PPF doesn’t impede the functionality of neither the lock nor the door code. I have very thick and transparent PPF installed on two Mach-Es over three years without an issue. I can’t speak for the one @Kamuelaflyer provided. But worst case you can ask a good detailer to custom install them for you (black and thin would be best). It won’t be more than a couple hundred dollars. But you will absolutely need a cutout around the button.

I have no wire/cracks, but I also wasn’t aware of the locking function. I’ve always used my keyfob or walkway. I’ll continue to do that to avoid this cosmetic issue

I’m reaching out because I’m feeling at a loss with Ford. I can’t seem to let it go. I have the cracks near the door lock buttons like so many others (and myself). I have had them replaced before. So, I feel like I know what I’m looking at. They can be felt with a fingernail. It’s all four doors. Same old thing. To me, these are definitely cracks, but when I took my car in I received a new story from Ford. They are claiming they’re just scratches and not cracks. That for the panels to be cracked they would have bubbling present. What these are is scratches. Suggesting they were caused by the carwash. I strongly feel they are using this to avoid replacing them anymore. Has anyone else received this line from Ford?

I’ve attempted addressing the issue twice. The dealership has insisted that these are simply scratches, the second time by someone experienced, who should know what they’re doing. I thought I’d let it go, as it is barely noticeable. I’ve had trouble though. I’m frustrated because I feel that is incorrect. I hope it’s just a cosmetic issue—if these are cracks, I’m concerned about how things will last in years to come.

Is this some kind of new tactic Ford is using to avoid addressing this issue? I’ve had good luck with this dealership and SA in the past, but the way this is being handled is really making me feel uneasy with Ford. Has anyone else had a similar experience? Or something that suggests these are indeed scratches.

We have 2 Mach-e's, 2021 and 2024. While I have never noticed such fine lines, when I use my iPhone light as various angles, I can see these minute lines between the door button and the square around the lock button. Not exactly the same angle in each of them, but they are perfectly straight lines between the 2 devices. Pretty sure they are a normal part of the manufacturing or electronic process. So, not only would most people consider them invisible, but I think they are normal. Also, with the iPhone light, I see hundreds of circular scratches on this piano black material, from washing the car. I don't notice those either, other when looking closely with a bright light.

I've seen that on my MME. It looks like scratching, but there's no reason it should be scratched. I never use the door entry code nor do I ever use the lock button, so I see no reason for scratching. It bothers me, but not enough that I would pursue a fix.

First world problem. The car works, you have to be rally close and look for the crack from what it sounds like.
BTW , I have no line I can find in sunlight or with an uncut fingernail so maybe my opinion is not needed.
