Electrochromatic glass roof is news to me. Very cool if that's true!

I don't see how OTA charge rate increase from 150kW is possible. I would think that's governed by hardware (i.e. cable thickness cooling systems, etc). Would love to be wrong though.

Ford's handsfree driving system being included with the purchase of the car is a big deal. Personally, any sort of autonomous driving is not very compelling to me except on boring interstate roadways. If Ford can safely give that to me with true handsfree capability with purchase of the Mustang Mach-E, then I'm even happier with my reservation decision.

Who's to say the hardware at launch is not capable of doing more than 150kw? Tesla has increased their charging speeds via OTA without hardware changes.

I'd wager the Mach-E would have the hardware in place to charge faster than 150kw but Ford is waiting to see how the vehicle performs before allowing them to safely increase the speed.

We know from the reddit Q&A with the anonymous Ford engineer that the Mach-E was not built for more than 150kW. It definitely can't do 350kW.

If the MME had the hardware in place to charge at > 150kW, the time to 80% SoC would be much less than 45 minutes.

There's no benefit in having 200kW+ if there's no way to manage the heat. The car has to have appropriate thermal management systems to cool the batteries but we know from Dave Pericak saying the car can't be tracked that it can't manage sustained heat.

The best way to reduce the time to charge is to maintain >100kW for as long as possible. Audi-tron does this by holding 130-140kW+ all the way to 80%.

"do you really think that anyone would put that much extra copper wire in a car to support 350kW and not use it? "

I took that from the AMA to mean why would Ford make a car capable of higher charging speeds and not allow it....eventually.

Agreed that if Ford can keep the charging curve speed higher for longer (like e-Tron) that would be preferred for me too.

350kW would require 800V architecture. It ain't happening.

What is the distinction between first and fifth questions?
Full order to start May(ish) and orders to begin June 20th? I’m assuming, given the very specific date, that June 20 is the day the order system will first be open.

A little disappointing to see that the additional GT color is now described as “MAYBE”.
Also disappointing to hear that roof rack options (like the hitch) are also likely to be region dependent.
Hope Ford will read this forum from now on ??

I'm good with 150. If I had a stretch goal I would hope for 200's (and maintain that speed for longer).

My point was that I took the AMA answer to mean that the Mach-E hardware could be able to do more than 150. I agree that jumping from 150 to 350 is unrealistic, but 200's seems possible. Ford has been saying all along that they are working on future proofing the vehicle to some extent. Allowing OTA updates and putting in higher computer processing power in the infotainment system than is needed at launch to allow for future capabilities. That leads me to think... why not expand that reasoning into over-sizing the charging hardware and cooling capacity at launch to allow for higher speeds and faster charging as Ford gets more experience with the charging software.

Yes! Hear! Hear! Great job asking the Qs and compiling the document. I really appreciate all the work!

It was an extreme non-answer answer... Basically said that either it's shipping with hardware capable of doing more and they will be using it later (surprise the competition), or it isn't capable. He didn't really state which.... and until someone does a tear down of the vehicle and battery pack we don't know what the hardware is capable of.

It would need 800V to the charger, but it doesn't require an 800V architecture internally. You could have several sub cells at lower voltages that are charged in parallel from a step down voltage.

I think only if a full deposit refund is available, I would commit to this.
Talk to the dealer where you are going to order. When I asked my dealer, they said that they were not going to take any money from me until they had the vehicle to give me and I could test drive it. Evidently they believe there will be enough demand that they can quickly sell the vehicle if I don't like it. They're probably right!

The ordering system in the UK seems to be a bit different to that in The US. A recent email from Ford indicated that my pre-order deposit was already in the hands of the dealer and they would hang onto it if I made my order a firm one. Hopefully, in view of the likely demand there will be no issues in getting it back.
