I used to buy nothing but used cars because of my classical Pontiac addiction. My knee-jerk reaction to the California law is that it doesn't affect me. As someone who has bought new cars as my 2 most recent vehicles (and 3 of my last 5), I think the law is too restrictive. As the biggest market for any of the auto manufacturers, the state will be forcing auto makers to sell only 2 or 3 models here since none of them has very many BEV models. As a daily EV driver the law also doesn't affect me. I still think the law is kind of nuts. ?‍♂?

Millions of people don’t need access to public chargers more than, at most, a couple times per year.

People need to realize vehicles that have a full tank every single day for a significant portion of people does not require a gas station on every corner.

California is nuts.

even though I chose to by my Mach, it was not because of the mandate. You should be able to buy the vehicle you want.

California makes rules and regulations that don’t really fix things but create other problems. Examples include plastic bags and the minimum wage as well as the solar panels on all new homes.

I have solar panels and they keep lowering their electricity buy back prices. They have already reneged by 40% and now with the super majority want to cut the remaining 60% by another 80%.

Because of the mandate, there is too much extra power going back to the grid and the power companies are not getting enough money even though we have the highest energy prices already.

I say buy the vehicles you want and for energy use a mix of everything…

Until China and India clean up their act we could go 100% EV and it won’t solve anything but create other problems.

At least they're buying yours back. PG&E just wipes my excess production out at "true-up" time. It's the whole reason I first bought a PHEV then an EV. ?‍♂?

It’s the true up. I just used the phrase buy back.

They basically want to reduce the true up price by another 80%.

This screws the break even timeline on my solar investment.

Bastards!

Get storage batteries. I despise PG&E and for that reason no longer rely on them for power after I added my batteries.

LOL They just wipe out my credits on True-up. PG&E here just gets the benefit of my PV array and they charge me a delivery fee in order to do so. ??

Even though I drive an EV, I don't think this silly California law would ever become reality.

Can you say "not enough public chargers" in the state ?
CA also has stricter air pollution controls for ICE vehicles which MAGA Reps would like to get rid of as well... That article is conflating the two. (the part that 11 other states have adopted are the pollution rules.)

There is no law that CA must only sell EVs by any date. Only projected rules that can be rescinded administratively in plenty of time.

That's something I need to do. That, and leave more lights on. ??

I have 2 Tesla batteries already.

It’s the principle of the bait and switch after the fact that pisses me off.

I know what you mean at true up. I have such a large credit that three months before I shut down the batteries and use up all my credit with them. Not going to let them have that power for free.

I had 2 and had to go to 4. I agree with you. At least for now they actually buy back energy. Some states don’t allow utility companies to do that.
