All situations where a small child or someone infirm enough they can't break glass with a tool (who would be very unlikely the operator of the vehicle), implies someone will be outside the vehicle to break the window regardless. Answer is always -- break the window if a life is even remotely in jeopardy. Hopefully we can all agree on that.

Fwiw, if someone ever gets trapped in the car... just break the glass. Unless I'm misreading something, this seems more like a head's up for the "can't fight their way out of a paper bag" buyer. Having a glass breaking tool in the glove box should be mandatory. Cheap life saving security tool for the very rare instance you'd need one.

The issue is, if the 12v battery dies, you can exit the vehicle by pulling the handle hard which will mechanically open the door (rather than using the electric door pop) but it bypasses the lock. If you get out and shut the door - the door will remain locked and you can't get back in. The concern is that you might do that with a young child in the back seat.

Yes, the answer is to bust open a window - but a glass break tool in the glove box isn't going to help in this situation.

I can't imagine there would be any other way to break a window other than that tool. Especially if someone were trapped inside. You would just have to stand there mind empty, devoid of a single idea. Watching your loved one or beloved pet perish in the most excruciating and tragic manner possible.

Me, I'd grab a rock or any other dense heavy object that are bountiful on the planet and start bashing. It just might work.

If someone is trapped in the vehicle and you can't get it open, then call 911 (not AAA). Yes police/fire has tools to break windows.

If there's no one trapped in your vehicle (and you're just locked out), then police, AAA, whomever will NOT break your window for you (liability risk). You need a 12V jump pack instead.

It's very difficult to break a window with a knife blade. A rock would be better.

Apparently in another part of that advance notice they detail what the plans are to reimburse owners who have, or will have, paid out of pocket to have this issue 'repaired' before 15 July 2025. So that may be the target date they plan on pushing out the fix. Not sure why this involves a software update to the PCM and SOBDMC (rear motor resolver), but ....

I guess it's back to the 'Flintstone' string and painter's tape lockout prevention method. (No disrespect to Lee intended, it's just a comment on how low tech this temporary preventative fix is...)

Although scary to be locked out. Most scary is being locked in! Yet we are ok with "child locks". Where you are literally locking someone in the car. Can't open doors or roll down window. If I am outside easier to get in, than trying to get out while trapped in back of car.
