I mean you can, but I don’t know how long the batteries/capacitors have before they get discharged. So if you park it unlocked and the 12V dies overnight and the door latch backups also run out of charge then you’re still locked out.
I don't think there are any capacitors. I know the manual says they exist but I tested my car when new and it didn't work. ???

It's highly unlikely that an able-bodied adult will be locked inside of the car since the door releases are a combination of mechanical and electric (front mecahnical release is simply a full pull of the release handle, rear is a double-pull). Children strapped into child seats are another story. ??

Mark's tested it and gotten a surprisingly large number of door release events with the battery disconnected. The caveat is that the doors must be unlocked prior to the 12V going kaput. ??

Good, that is the root cause of certain lockouts when there is a 12V battery failure that occurs immediately after switching off the vehicle (because the DC/DC shuts off) which caused a lockout situation after exiting and closing the door. When the door is opened mechanically, the door latch modules are not registering the state change from locked to unlocked properly, which causes the door to remain locked after having been opened and closed. This will cause you to be locked out after exiting until you are able to restore 12V power.

Why is the recall of Model Year 2025 cars limited to Mach-Es built only thru June 3, 2025?
  • Are they just not building Mach-E after that date until the software is ready?
  • Did they change the hardware on June 4 to address the problem without software?
  • Or does the build date range just get extended to cover all cars built until some date in Q3?

Yeah, June 3 is weird since it's a Tuesday. My guess is that they are likely holding all cars built on the 4th and later at the factory for updates. They also likely issued a stop build. ??

The messed up thing is that all of the cars that have already been shipped are aging and discharging their 12V batteries, much like the 2021s that got held up in shipping and the 2022s that got shipped then held for the first HVBJB hold. Remember the spates of cars going bonkers due to low/bad 12V batteries? I'll bet that the dealers and Ford have not learned from that and we will see that again. ??

So the article quotes this forum and this forum quotes the article? Wouldn’t this open a huge black hole in the universe?

Since when shit we spitball here is considered news?

Trying to understand the recall. If I get out of the car as the driver and close the door, the passengers won’t be able to get out?

Mark has disconnected his 12V batteries multiple times while working on the cars. The doors open just fine for a large number of button pushes as long as they're not locked. ??

I think it would help. If trapped in the car, then break the glass.

I didn't realize the interior handles operated a manual lock release. I actually tried that when my car was new to see how the battery powered poppers would work. They didn't work. Upon opening up the door panels, I didn't find any batteries...???

Maybe I just didn't pull the handle hard enough?

Oh well, glad there is a fix coming. This issue has never affected my car so I am thankful for that.
If you pull the handle normally, it electronically pops the door open. If you pull it further, there’s a mechanical release that will open the door.

no, passengers can get out using the backup door release mechanisms. in the front seats i think there's a mechanical override (pull the handle up hard), and in the back seats it might be supercapacitor powered (pull handle twice.)

the problem is if there's something or someone inside the car that can't do that (like a dog or a baby) they are now trapped inside. you'd have to break a window to get them out. similarly you can't get back into the car without doing the whole frunk backup power thing and jumping or replacing the 12V battery. i assume with the LVB at 8V (as the notice calls out) that the 12V override for the frunk would work.

It's kind of like strapping a slice of bread with peanut butter on it to the back of a car. Since cats always land on their feet and the bread always falls peanut butter side-down, the cat will never touch the floor. ??
