I currently have a 2021 premium awd extended range that, despite having some MAJOR issues (I’m looking at you, front camera fault) that have resulted in a dozen or so service trips, is my favorite car to date. I’m considering upgrading, though, after having just completed another major recall. My major questions—

Is the 2025 more reliable than the first gen 2021 or are there still major hiccups in the system?

Has battery charging (speed) improved?

Are there any other factors/features that make the 2025 worthwhile?

Honestly, I’d keep my 2021 forever if I wasn’t concerned it won’t last me. FWIW, she’s got 70k miles, been driven hard, and is still a champ. But in addition to replacing the cameras and everything connected to them about 9 times, we’ve replaced a front motor, speaker, major recall for the battery, etc. I don’t know if it’s first gen issues or Ford, but I’ll never buy a first gen again. I would buy a Mach-E again despite my reservations.

I have a Job 2 2021, and it's been extremely reliable, so I'm thinking maybe I will keep it forever.

I don't think 2025s are more reliable than 2021 Job 2, but if you have a Job 1, then any of the newer models may be significantly more reliable. (I am ignoring the HVBJB failure issue here - that part is probably more reliable now - unless you've already gotten it replaced in which case you may already have the newer, more reliable part). I believe there are some improvements in charge speeds, but they have been minor. Other new features and improvements also are minor.

IMO there’s not enough difference to upgrade to the 2025 version of the same car. Assuming your car is paid off already? Just “make a car payment” to a savings account to cover any possible repairs. It’ll almost certainly be cheaper than a new car.

If there was a major exterior facelift or new interior (eg ditched SYNC for Ford Digital Experience) it might be more worthy of an upgrade, but it’s basically still the same car except for heat pump (and smaller frunk).

Not enough changes IMHO.

If you want something "new" I would look elsewhere.
Perhaps a vehicle with 800V architecture for starters.

If the GTs had gotten ventilated seats in addition to removing the 5 second limiter, the new true blue color and the mag ride, I would lean towards yes.

But somehow only the premiums got the ventilated seats? In that case, I'm keeping my 2021 GT PE, and am eyeing a Lyriq for my next EV. Ford's ventilated seats are good. I want them.

Supposedly the 2025 Premium has a reworked suspension based on a few people who've test driven. Anecdotally people saying it is better, but I haven't heard much about it and there's no official Ford notes on that.

But I would upgrade to a GT or Rally just for the magneride suspension to deal with the roads I drive.

I prefer the new column shifter in the 25's over the dial shifter and would accept the smaller frunk in the 2025 in exchange for the column shift

GTs no longer have the 5 sec limit, but that was changed before 2025.
I like the shape of the GT seats but would prefer 100% leather -fake vegan or real -with no suede inserts. And ventilation like the Premium now has.

Overall, still not enough to justify an upgrade yet. I'd wait until they facelift it or do a major change to the battery system like 800V or higher DC Fast charging abilities, and hopefully add vehicle to Home like the F-150.

But I think this car will stay as is with minor tweaks around the edges for a bunch of years. Ford will probably put its efforts into new stuff like an EV sedan (Lincoln or Ford) or maybe a nice Lincoln Crossover EV.

We upgraded without planning to do so from our 2022 Premium with the typical HORRIBLE ride quality to a 2025 Rally in late May.
The Rally combo magneride, rally springs, and tires have been a GAME changer on rough roads, especially at slower speeds.
Having vented seats would be great, but the suede is a nice touch and is mostly cool in the sun.
I think the heat pump has helped keep the L2 charging become more constant in our hot garage the charging sessions are more stable than the 22 with the first version of the Ford EVSE. The Rally had the latest version EVSE (Black color).
It's FAST and not having the 5 second limit is just a joy. I don't know how GT owners put up with that this whole time.
Small frunk isn't an issue but will be missed on long road trips.
Worth it to us, and we are very happy.

The GT seats are not leather...I'm not sure why anyone thinks ventilated seats in anything but a leather seat is necessary....they don't get hot and you don't get sticky...so I don't get it.

I'm currently shopping for a replacement, but not for another year. My issue is my garage situation. Old construction, 16' door closed to concrete wall. So finding a luxury EV on an 800v platform that is well under 192" is a bit of a challenge.

I briefly considered a '25 GTPE. Looked at the specs on Ford site and decided I would hold out

Nope, slight decrease in charge time but charging speed is still capped at 150kw. 2025 is missing somethings the 2021 has, no sprayer for front camera, smaller frunk, headrests arent adjustable, no hands free trunk open, one usb in rear seats (removed the usb-a) Still basically the same car. Only better thing i see is the small dashcreen Is updated, it does now have a heat pump so we will see how that makes a difference this winter and ventilated seat as option. Im keeping my 2021 for awhile and luckily have had no issues. 2025 has a paint recall in hotter states like fl and tx, and the same door recall we all got. So even ”upgrading” to a 2025 you’ll always face those.

We picked a 25 Premium RWD ER over the 24 mostly due to the improved suspension. We drove them back to back and the 25 was definitely more comfy. Heat pump, ventilated seats, column shifter, and improved bluecruise 2.0 are meaningful upgrades as well. The only downside is the small frunk. We aren't frunk people anyway and only use it for smelly takeout and charging equipment. Wife loves the Molten Magenta as well.

We put up with it because we kind of had to. Back when we reserved and ordered our GTs nobody had actually driven one and Ford was not forthcoming about the limit (a lot of us reserved our cars over a year before the first GT went into production). Some of us got a 2024+ in order to not have the 5 second limit. ??

The micro-frunk is a buzz kill for me though. Can’t chill in it and the frunk is for chillin’. ??

This is the VERY reason we are driving our 2025 Rally now; a bonus in my wife's eyes was the suspension improvements. I'm loving the 3.4 sec 0-60 and the white rally wheels and white interior touches.

I seriously considered upgrading to a '25 GT or Rally from my '23 Premium recently. I was mainly looking for the better suspension, more supportive seats and increased performance. The addition of the heat pump and new gear selector are also notable improvements, IMO. When it came to pulling the trigger, however, I didn't feel these upgrades were worth taking a bath on my trade. If heavy depreciation wasn't a factor, things may have gone another way. If all goes as planned, I'll likely hold out for the next gen Mach-E (assuming it's not killed), or a Rivian R3X (assuming Rivian survies long enough).

@Gardenhard, To answer your question on wether or not upgrading to a '25 is worthwhile, it depends on many personal factors. My personal opinion is that it's a worthy upgrade over your '21, if you truly like the car. Ford seems to have worked out most of the major kinks and you get the bonus of a shiny new manufacturer's warranty. Sure, it'll likely still have quirks, and somewhat outdated tech, but it'll be a more refined version of your current ride with some upgrades (and sadly, some decontended features).

I think it is the 2027 model year that is supposed to be brand new, or at least a heavy refresh, of the Mach-E.

If the problems with your specific vehicle are solved and you would like another Mach-E and can realistically wait another 1.5 to 2 years, that would probably be the one to go for to see a lot of changes from 2021.
