Everytime I get a call I think my car just died suddenly.
Just like how the low battery warning from my phone makes me think my HVB just pooped the bed.
Everytime.
Every time my car thinks it heard "Ok Ford" from the podcast it's playing through it's own friggin speakers (seriously, I can't believe they react to that), it does the same thing you're describing and like you, I jump to really negative conclusions until the sync screen finally changes.

One of the reasons I posted what Copilot answered, is in another thread where I posted what Copilot said @Mach-Lee that it was learning, when in fact it just searched and came up with @Mach-Lee ’s answer.

I wanted to show what it is really doing. Searching, consolidating, but it isn’t thinking or making real judgments. Given only one source it will “believe “ it. Given multiple sources it will most likely pick the what is said the most.

Currently AI is way over hyped, with many people not understanding its limitations. Already people have been fired when management thought all they needed was AI and the had to either hire them back or some consultants.

It can a great research tool, but only for someone that knows how to filter out the incorrect information.
On Edge when using copilot used to (might still) literally show links where the pages it pulled the information from.

Which in itself isn’t bad for what we do lots of time when searching the web…in fact it’s literally what we are doing when searching the web.

The problem is the tone presenting everything as factual information as opposed to “here’s a list of websites…that contain information about what you asked…no clue if it’s true or not”.

I thought the car's HVAC compressor was variable speed. Is it not?

I only have one profile. I wasn't using remote start, either. Hmm. Yeah maybe a bug.

Were you starting from a heat soaked car? I park outside at work, giant lot no shade anywhere nearby.
I tried both from a super hot car as well as after being in the garage.

That said my AC fan speed has had a major bug for years-

Park the car in the hot summer- get in and it’s on auto AC (I usually keep it set around 70).

Here in the bug- doesn’t matter if it’s 100+ degrees inside the car, the auto fan speed is always low.

If I raise or lower the temp (to 71 or 69) it will immediately go to full fan speed like it should have from the beginning when it’s 100+ in the car.

That sucks. Also, the fact that we experience different behavior for no apparent reason kind of sucks, too.

Just like turning the headlights back to auto when they won’t turn off…….. I’ve gotten used to these kinda bugs.

That one was acknowledged and (eventually) fixed, through a hardware change.

The bigger software items I notice on my daily drives are the screen dimming that's awkwardly 5-10 seconds too late after an overpass, and too slow to re-brighten; the surprise switches to Engage mode; and glitches with lane centering and lane change assist in BC 1.3 (fixed in 1.4+ but not destined for our cars for some reason).

I'm really happy to have drive theme animations back though, and I hope it means Ford is continuing to repair regressions and enhance our rides.

There have probably been at least half dozen versions of HVAC software released in the past two years, some small differences between them could easily exist. Or they might have removed that feature.

I cranked my A/C all the way down to 60ÂşF, and I couldn't detect any difference between the fan speed in Whisper and Engage. Also manually turned the fan all the way up, no difference there either.

We could use some more people to test on their cars...

I didn't realize there were so many HVAC firmware differences out there. That could easily explain some of our different experiences.

Yeah I'd be interested in more people trying this, too.

I tried again today. It was a little cooler here and I had the hvac temp set a little bit higher. So the fan was not as loud. When I switch between Whisper and Unbridled (I don't care for the graphics in Engage), I could still notice a sound difference from the blower. It's slight, but there.

Here's the thing about agentic AI agents like ChatGPT and Copilot - they are based on Large Language Models which must be trained on data sets. The free version of ChatGPT does not "know" anything past September 2021, and the latest paid model "stops" in Sept. 2024. For Copilot I think it's sometime in 2023.

So to fill in the blanks (because training models is expensive), the latest agentic AI models "mix" what is has learned from its training with recent "search results" style information - we call it Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG).

Seems Copilot has taken its "RAG" result and acted like it was the Gospel truth even though it hasn't actually "learned" about it in the traditional LLM sense, it's just taken essentially a search result and presented it as if it was "learned" information.

Not a fan....
An understandable explanation, thank you!

Are your artificial drive sounds turned on? I wonder if that’s what you’re hearing?

For me the fan being on a higher or lower setting isn’t a “slight noise difference,” it’s obvious when the fan speed increases or decreases.

Have you also noticed that when someone calls you or when you start a call, the cabin fan speed is also turned down, so that the noise doesn't disturb your call? The Ford engineers have seriously added a lot of these small but genius features in the MME. Examples are, the windows accelerating and decelerating when going up an down, the automatic high beams coming on slowly instead of wham bam bright like in other cars. I'm sure there are more!
This also happens in my 2018 F-150. Not just a Mach-E thing. Not even just a Ford thing. Some of the rental cars I drive also do this.

No they're off, and to be sure, I've also compared the sound levels while parked.

It's a slight difference. When I switch to Whisper it sounds like the blower just dips down slightly, and lifts back to in the other two modes. It actually sounds like the defrost vents being slightly turned on or off, even though that doesn't make any sense to me since I wouldn't have guessed that defrost vents are used in normal hot weather cooling.

From what I can gather, AI is just search results rephrased and regurgitated.

I think this is too hard to pin down, the AC really aggressively tries to be efficient I think it's going to be hard to have any idea what is really going on or what inputs its actually using or outputs are actually occurring.

Hmm, because when I searched it said:

In essence,
rephrasing and regurgitating search results refer to different ways of interacting with information found through searching.
Rephrasing search results
  • Rephrasing, also known as paraphrasing, involves expressing the meaning of search results using different words while retaining the original message.
  • It goes beyond simply changing a few words and often involves restructuring sentences, using synonyms, and adapting the tone to suit the intended audience or context.
  • Rephrasing demonstrates a deeper understanding of the material and can help clarify complex ideas or simplify information for a broader audience.
  • It's a crucial skill in academic writing, professional communication, and content creation, as it helps avoid plagiarism, enhances clarity, and improves writing ability.
  • Rephrasing is especially beneficial when synthesizing information from multiple sources or tailoring content for different audiences.
  • Rephrasing can involve using various techniques, such as rewriting text, replacing keywords with synonyms, making structural changes to sentences, or partially paraphrasing key parts.
  • It's important to remember that even when rephrasing, proper citation of the original source is essential to avoid plagiarism
